Oh I so went there, honestly I hate other cite advertising. If the reviewer linked it, or another influential member then cool, fine. But don't come here to plug your cite where the profile pic of the writer is some dude with his head in an empty Lite beer box.

Picked up Shallow Sea's two weeks back thanks to this site and the staff review, and i heard Cheval Glass and Curse Of Perfect Days, and ever since i have been hooked on this album. Truly brilliant

"Not too dissimilarly to its fantastic predecessor..."

This double negative at the beginning of the second paragraph is kinda awkward.

Review is great otherwise, props man.

It's not really the double negative that makes it awkward, possibly if the "too" were removed it would be a little easier going but other than that I don't really see anything wrong with it, people use the phrase "not dissimilarly" a fair amount.

So when can I start ignoring the comments in this review? Not quite yet me thinks!

"Daveyboy hitting a homerun with a touchdown and a three pointer"

No Slum, that was Bayside. Emery have already hot their grand slam, shot from half court & TD with 2 point conversion.

"Daddy's Little Peach is soooooooooooo good."

I think you're gonna be in the minority on that opinion Gabe. I don't hate it though.

"...hopefully the simpler melodies and heavier direction will make this more enjoyable for me..."

Maybe fr33, but while Adam's point (which went along those lines) will be agreed upon in isolation, I'm unsure it effects the final product as much as - simply put - whether you enjoy the songs or not.

"I think the mods would shut that shit down in a hot second."

Yes Emim... They will.

"i give up on this band"

I still contend that you've given up on a lot of bands since you became staff Jared.

"I don't get the last line considering Emery chose the name of the title as having a very negative connotation... so they definitely would not not have it any other way, just the opposite."

Hi Eric. Aren't Emery nice to make an album just so you could rate an album another 1.5? I'm unsure I understand your point & thought I referenced it at the end of the 1st paragraph... Along with the lyrics of 'You Wanted It'.

"I want my Butcher's Mouth. "

I thought people who liked that song would especially like this album. Guess I was wrong. Or is it just LG being LG?

"...I miss the dual cleans sometimes, bu I always wished ISSWS was a little heavier so you win some, you lose some."

Well said tkxxx. And I guess that's why this album feels like a natural progression of sorts. I can't see many 5'ing this for that reason & that's why people will most likely prefer specific parts of this album.

"You should leave that summary up, Davey."

Ok. Well, at least for another day or so. Then I'll change it & people will think everyone is reviewing Emery.

"I'm surprised no one in their reviews has mentioned the amount that they reference drinking and women considering how catholic they are."

I was gonna go deeper into the lyrics & touch on that, but felt the review was long enough already. It's really the overall point they are trying to make in those songs. Toby has always been very mature & that's now even more apparent since he has become a father.

Btw, I Never Got To See The West Coast is a really good song, but my favourite is still probably either The Cheval Glass or Curse Of Perfect Days

The Chevel Glass slays, best chorus I've heard in a while. So far through this album (third time) I'm

thinking 3.5 probably a 4 with time. The previous album being a 4.5.

Good review Davey, was looking out for your review on this due to your review of ...In Shallow Seas

being the reason I picked that album up.

"My rating will probably be close to Davey's if the tracks I've heard thus far are anything to judge by."

If I had reviewed this half a day earlier, I MAY have given it a 3.5. It's gonna be interesting how this album holds up in say 6 months time.

"I'm disappointed. Where's the fanboy ranting?! Where's the shitty quotes?! I wanted this review to be parodied and hated but it can't be because it's actually good... damn."

Sorry Thomas. Maybe I'll change the Summary to a Confucious quote tomorrow. How about 'Confucious say "Where the f**k is Michael Jordan."

"I think I'm gonna stick with GJ/Thursday/Rival Schools in 2011 for post-hardcore this year"

Ooh, not long now until new Thursday. Should be great.

"WHERE ARE THE BLAST BEATSSSSSS"

'Scissors'. Or has my hearing let me down.

"The last two songs kinda seem out of place on this"

I just think they should have been separated bloc.

"Album is ok, might grow on me but there's enough post-hxc that really kicks ass this year... Sick review as always Davey"

Thanks Ross. I know what you mean. I guess that's where reviewing an album helps. I basically have to give it many listens. I'd deinitely recommend you coming back to this. Can see you 3.5'ing it eventually.

"I just don't get all the hate that this album gets..."

It's probably not the album Thomas. It's the band. Coz, you know, you can't play post-hardcore & be catchy. You have to be technical & whatnot (whatnot = boring).

"its not terrible lol but its deffinetly more around the 3/3.5/low 4 area then anything else... if anything this album makes me sad that I haven't listed to ISSWS in while..so I'm gonna do that"

All decent comments Narshh, although i still don't get the excessive love for 'Butchers Mouth'. And yeah, everyone should go back & listen to ISSWS.. Once a month for the rest of your life!

"Like it or not, you've gotta admit that it takes some frickin' balls to make all those over-the-top heavy songs lead to the 'Jesus, fix me' finale. That's a wow. Not a cool kind of wow, but still a wow."

Hahaha. They're Emery. They do what they want.

"Hi Eric. Aren't Emery nice to make an album just so you could rate an album another 1.5? I'm unsure I understand your point & thought I referenced it at the end of the 1st paragraph... Along with the lyrics of 'You Wanted It'."

Emery says, "Morrell says the concept behind the title of the record is the notion of humans determining their own path out of free will, rather than adhering to a lifestyle dictated by God. In an age where many individuals become increasingly cynical, it is tempting to become one’s own lord; more often than not, it is indeed human nature to “do what we want."

I don't know... maybe it doesn't make sense, but it sounded to me like you (among many others, most of them to a higher degree) took the title as saying, "Hey, we're Emery and we do what we want because we're rebellious, etc.!" or something vaguely along those lines... when I think the band means the exact opposite. Like this line in your review, "Emery would have it no other way." sounded like it's misinterpreting what Emery's concept was entirely. Obviously, I could be wrong though, and I'm 100% making a big deal out of nothing here, it's just something I noticed while reading! Sorry to be a bother haha : )

And yes, I can always count on Emery to boost my objectivity rating.

oh no you di'int.
I could name you 10 post-hardcore albums off the top of my head that are far catchier and also much better than this.

"This double negative at the beginning of the second paragraph is kinda awkward... Review is great otherwise, props man."

Yeah, I looked at that sentence a few times Cosmiche. For some reason, just writing 'Similarly' never entered my mind. Hehe.

Thanks for joining the site - to shill your own site - WreckedReviews.

"I really don't like the vocals."

Clean, screaming or both. I know many find Toby's cleans to be too melodic & verging on corny, but I lurvvve them.

"eh. this is okay i guess."

Didn't think you would like this Tyler, so I'll take a 3 from your good self.

"Picked up Shallow Sea's two weeks back thanks to this site and the staff review, and i heard Cheval Glass and Curse Of Perfect Days, and ever since i have been hooked on this album. Truly brilliant"

Yeah, that was my review too. Great to hear I have made you a convert & you can now enjoy Emery until the end of time.

"I Never Got To See The West Coast is so good"

Well, it looks like it's gonna be that song which is the most divisive.

"album sucks"

Noooooo. Thought you would like it more than a 2 Dante. Oh well. You do what you want.

"so far through this album (third time) I'm thinking 3.5 probably a 4 with time....Good review Davey"

Thanks VC. Ratings-wise, that was pretty much my thinking the whole way through as well.

"... will be my first taste of Emery"

Once you get a taste of Emery defjaw, you will be throwing up everything else. LOL.

Eric, I think we both know that your idea of catchy and my idea of catchy are poles apart.

So after 5/6 listens this is sitting at a 4 due to the last two tracks and a few of the slower tracks, as well as the fact that I'm thinking ISSWS will rock this.

Great review (in case I hadn't mentioned) and congrats, I think this is the most I've listened to a new album in one day (when I actually had class).
