Doesn't matter, has live April Ethereal and The Moor

and the weakest 10 min song from ghost reveries smh
|
| |
and the weakest track from Blackwater Park smh
|
| |
you mean harvest right
cause it's harvest
|
| |
Eh I really like Harvest, Dirge For November is probably my least favorite. Or Funeral Portrait, it rocks but it feels out of place on BP (sounds like something off of Still Life to me)
|
| |
dirge has always been one of my favorites, i feel like it does the whole atmospheric thing they try to go for on BWP better than any of the other tracks. the clean end bit does drag a bit though
|
| |
Honestly the clean parts of that are a highlight of the album, the heavy part kind of drags for me but it's not too long. Drapery does atmosphere the best.
Obligatory ranking:
Leper Affinity
The Drapery Falls
Bleak
Blackwater Park
Harvest
Dirge For November
The Funeral Portrait
Patterns in the Ivy doesn't really count, beautiful instrumental interlude though.
|
| |
drapery probably has the best intro on the album. the 4 longest songs on the alb are the best basically but I'd probably put dirge above drapery
|
| |
Drapery's "Spiral down to the ground below" section has some of my favorite clean vocals from Mikael.

Mikael's harsh vocals are a bit wobbly on here, everything else is 5/5.

Harlequin Forest sounds unbelievable on here.

I don't normally bother with live albums but it's Opeth, so maybe...
Is this the best one? I wonder if 'Set 1' is just a carbon copy of the album, or if they mixed it up a little. Set 2 on here looks interesting, would've been stoked to see some of these tracks live.
|
| |
This is pretty good and the setlist is almost perfect but the best performance is The Roundhouse Tapes imo. Mikael's delivery is just unbelievably amazing with the Roundhouse Tapes. Way better than here.

Ah right, yeah been stalking that thread as well. Initially I'd just be listening to the live recordings I guess, live performances can obviously be enhanced by the visual element so that would change someone's perspective.

Pretty sure this whole show is on youtube, i recommend, great show

I love Michael's harsh vocal performance in this live album. I like it when vocals have a 'personality' and aren't 100% perfect growls etc. Gives it a real feeling of strain and pain which compliments the atmosphere. Also, his cleans here are absolutely beautiful. I was wondering if he was going to hit those notes accurately and he fucking blew me away. The guitarwork as well is on another level.

For an example of the non-perfect vocals that I'm talking about, this band I used to love is a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpuUnV8iEnk

The version of Dirge for November on here is incredible.

“When I came in here this morning I had a cup of coffee, kind of knowing that I’m having a cup of coffee inside the Royal Albert Hall but not really realising it’s fucking massive and shit”
