I wouldn't call Thrice teenage angst music at all. I'm not a teenager (haven't been for about 5 years or so) and I'm not angry or full of angst, yet I like Thrice. This is one of their weaker albums, but their back catalogue is pretty strong (IMO) so that's not saying anything bad about this record.

Alchemy Index Volumes I and II FTW.

Then why does their music/ lyrics sound immature as fuck? Just because you're not a teenager doesn't mean the music isn't 'teen angsty' or whatever you want to call it.
|
| |
Which makes it all the more laughable when people around here spout their drivel about how amazing the lyrics are.
|
| |
I don't think their music or lyrics sound 'immature as fuck'. Thrice aren't an angst- fueled band in my opinion.

Also, you should probably get a dictionary.

personally I don't think they're music or lyrics sound immature at all. Example A:
The blue light spills like oceans
We smile and let it in
It cures us of our questions
Like hoods on peregrine
Knowledge locked in a tower
Barons will hold the key
But if knowledge is power,
Know this is tyranny
All we're asking for is what's ours
You think they're selling you truth
But they're just selling you out
And if we keep buying in
The line between lies and truth
Will wear paper thin,
Paper thin
You really think those lyrics are immature?
|
| |
Seems like your last refuge because you have nothing valid to say. I never understand how the lyrics were applicable, a lot of the time you can't even make out what bands are saying. Not you, Inveigh
|
| |
We all were lost now we are found
No one can stop us or slow us down
We are the named and we are known
We know that we'll never walk alone
OMG HOW PROFOUND

gyro stop being such a fanboy, negative opinions are allowed. Just because everyone isn't sucking their dick here is no excuse to get prissy
|
| |
I encourage different opinions, I do, but you're being ridiculous.

Just because the lyrics aren't always the most profound thing you've ever heard doesn't mean they're immature. If you want immature lyrics, listen to some old thrash albums (like, early Metallica, Megadeth or Anthrax -- and don't get me wrong, I LOVE those albums).
|
| |
Yeah, because quoting some lyrics and expressing an opinion that doesn't correlate to yours is so ridiculous. Dude, when somebody knocks a band i like, i don't immediately start questioning their intellect. That's fanboyism.
|
| |
Who said I was questioning your intellect? You're picking out pretentious lyrics and using it as your rationale as to why it's bad when it really bears little relevance. Most artists have at least 1 or 2 if not more songs on their albums that have poor lyrics. Also, you throw around the term 'fanboy' a lot which is ironic because I'm not as into Thrice as most people on this site.

thrice have some good lyrics like stare at the sun, but then they have lots of bad ones, and using thrash as an example of bad lyrics just isnt fair since thrash has no good lyrics
|
| |
Thrice have a mixture of good and bad lyrics, but it doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Lol, I agree all Thrash lyrics are pretty much garbage.

Dustin is one of my favorite lyricists, but of course they have some poor lyrics in their catalog. I can't think of a single band that has released that many albums without at least a couple cringe-worthy lyrics.
Still, whether or not you like their lyrics, Thrice hasn't expressed "teen angst" since they were actually teenagers, and there's definitely none of that on Beggars.

Angst doesn't even fit the context of what he was trying to say.
