This album's real problem is that they save much of the more interesting composition for the last three tracks on the album. If much of the album possessed the more varied strengths of tracks like Magic and Mayhem, it'd be much better.
As amusing as it is to see people say that this is somehow an improvement from their debut, the debut really does have far more interesting writing than this. The riffs were far more varied, the production was far better, the leads weren't always truncated by some flimsy production and the album generally didn't feel like it was on autopilot for extended periods of time. The same cannot be said for Tales.

Decided to revisit this. Liking this a hell of a lot more than I did back when I first heard this. The clean vox are still iffy but at least it's mostly growls.
