Rishloo pull off the tension-release play so much better than Tool does and they have a lot more
"emotion" in their music. All they really share is a dark atmosphere and similar style vocals,
definitely not a clone. I like the bands for totally separate reasons.

I think Rishloo's vocalist is better than Maynard. More emotion, control and range.

most vocalists put Maynard to shame

Nah he's a pretty capable singer, just not as good as a lot people make him out to be

Maynard has a pretty unique ear for melody and a versatile voice. Rishloo's vocalist is just an improvement.

Maynard is one of my favorite singers. Unfortunately Andrew can be pitchy at times, but for the most
part he's stunning. The end to Paradora literally took my breath away the first time I heard it.
And people forget that Maynard is nearly 50 now so maybe he had the control that Andrew had when he
was 24, but not at 50 haha

I like the "pitchy" though, it adds to the mood of this album. Its very stream of conscious to me, it sort of gives off a bi-polar psyche if you get what I'm saying... the singer sounds like he's going insane or struggling with something

i prefer maynard's tone. he tends to stay in the midrange. Andrew can go higher which is cool and all, but i'm not that in love with high-pitched vocals when it's not the norm ala coheed, circa, etc...

I think MJK considers his APC stuff his most challenging since he does more high-register singing there than for Tool, but even that isn't as challenging as a lot of Rishloo's stuff.

@SpaceMan No I gotcha. I didn't like it at first but I got used to it. Like in Eidolon Alpha, to me it
sounds like a struggle to overcome social anxiety disorder. His voice is shaky towards the middle but
it's prob the point cause I get what he's going through. Just what I get from that song. It's very
personal for me.

as a matter of fact that is why TF is my fav rishloo because AM doesn't go too pitchy, save for a handful of spots, but
that's probs why you guys dig the latter 2 albums better

Yeah, I haven't paid attention to the track names while I've been listening to this, but the expressiveness in the vocals is quite breathtaking. I'm quite certain the shakeyness is intentional.

Hmm I never thought of it as intentional haha maybe it is. The end of Eidolon Alpha is one of the best vocal performances I've ever heard. Mad props to Andrew.

exactly, theres flaw in the singing to make it more human, its such a dark and depressing sound that
it should sound shaky, almost haunting and petrified.
That part in Eidolon Alpha you're talking about, its like he just can't take anymore of whatever is
pushing him but then it goes back to being all calm, becuase thats how life is. no matter how much
stress and torment you go through you have to keep moving on. then at the end he rambles "excuse your
excuses" a few times like he knows he shouldn't hide such dark thoughts... theres so much power behind
his voice

I just listened to Eidolon Alpha (because i didnt know the track names before) and it's definitely the one that has been sticking out for me. Superlative vocals. The beginning of the song is why i keep bringing up the Freddie Mercury comparison.

Alchemy Alice is my favorite off this, it showcases the best of Andrew's vocals and has some pretty
poetic lyrcs to boot. I'm pretty sure its about Heroin addiction. That ending is intense as fuckk
"Forgetting why you're here is to inspire..."

"Set the nightmare alight and dance till these flames illuminate the cause for the lie, redemption is not beyond our time!"
Fuckin stunning lyrics.
And Alchemy Alice is def about some sort of drug cause there's referances to Alice being high in it. Some of the bands members obviously went through some shit imo.
