ummmm is it even possible to not be profoundly affected by those bridge parts (the first one is the “deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder where its soooooo white as snowwww”)
kiedis totally ruins chili peppers for so many ppl to the point that they’ve become a joke but im almost certain that most of those ppl havent heard a real funk record in their lives. not that kiedis is emblematic of 70s/80s funk but given that thats precisely where a lotta their influences came from, and considering how silly some of the greatest funk music ever has been, i feel like the only explanation for people’s inability to accept RHCP’s silliness to the same extent that bootsy and even someone like rick james is taken with a grain of salt is that they dont know about funk at all.

Yes widow, The Getaway > I’m With You most certainly. I’m With You May even be their worst album.

agreed for worst, not countin the first album obvs. a lotta nonsense on IWY but imo some bangers too that woulda made a great EP (Monarchy, Death Song, Look Around, Maggie, Did I Let You Know).

both Josh albums are better than the standard tracklist version of this lmao
|

come onnn half the tracks on IWY are worse than the worst tracks here. not like offensively bad but so unremarkable as to be bad.

nah the worst tracks on here are easy contenders for worst RHCP songs. IWY does have a bunch of very unremarkable stuff but it's still a step up, and The Getaway was lowkey a top 5 Chilis album

Nah this is a damn solid double album with some expendable filler (like most double albums). Certainly much better than their last two, which have felt so bland, uninspired and phoned in. This has some of their best songs imo. Favorite RHCP is still By the Way, with Californication in second.

This is actually great. IMY was very bland but I felt the Getaway was a lot better.

Hell yeah, this is one of their best for me. Lots of filler, but so many great songs. Snow, t/t, Wet Sand, Desecration Smile and Animal Bar are some of their greatest songs.

Shouldn't have been a double album [374858]

Yeah probably not, but I also think there’s enough good material for one album. It’s somewhere in between. Anyway, I just see it as part of what I like about double albums.

but most of the album is constituted of these boring pop-rock songs...

I couldnt imagine listening to a double RHCP album in one sitting, or at all
