To Drown is sort of a boring (and long) way to end the album, Black Lake is inconsistent during it's length although it def has moments of brilliance and Watcher's Monolith is one of their more forgettable songs.

That being said, I still have the album 4'd so although it's their worst full length imo, I do still enjoy it

Man this is too good, I think it may have knocked the Mantle off the podium. Hell I'm even enjoying the Grain now that i'm more familiar with drone. I know the band will disagree but this shits all over their post 2008 output

To Drown is one of the band's greatest tracks and is probably the best Agalloch closer in fact.

To Drown is pretty good but it's nowhere near Our Fortress Is Burning or The Melancholy Spirit.

Suffice to say closers aren't really this bands strong suite.

Odal is also the best thing they've ever recorded to my ears.

Then its a toss up between In the shadow, ghost in my arms, limbs, fire/ice, falling snow, bloodbirds, into the painted grey and Sowilo Rune. So about half their discography.

Our Fortress Is Burning is an amazing closer. Agreed that Odal is their best song though.

Just relistened to this for the first time and months, and goddamn was it an amazing experience. Regardless of how much my musical taste shifts away from metal (that's why I made an alt, because my ratings and pie chart are completely outdated on this account), this album will always remain high among my favorites, and nothing else will ever be able to evoke the same emotional reaction that this will

I'm not quitting the metal, I still like it in moderation. It's just that there are other genres which I also enjoy equally or more, and limiting myself to metal in the past prevented me from hearing all of the other stuff that's out there
