And that's since their last album, which was an album ago.

They described this album as a free fall through things. Which i can see after Jurrasic the record explores various genres and different styles while still being The Ocean. I still think as a band they put the concept of the album first before they settle on a style/genre.

phan i is the ocean's finest work. i think one issue with this band is lack of consistency - for every stunner there's a dud. this record is one of them.

This album lost me at first, but it was the definition of a grower by the end of it. It's ultimately more unbalanced than Phan I which is certainly top-tier for the band, but it offers its own compelling perspective.

This album works so well when you listen to both front to back tbh. Jurassic becomes the climax and everything after, that variety, is just welcome and needed

On its own I see the point though

I mean there's absolutely no point in trying to emulate Jurassic in any way after it finishes, that strategy would be doomed to failure right from the start. The eclecticism/ variety was really the only sensible course of action.

Plasticine is the second best track here, so yeah (just realised there are like 3 tracks this purposeful butchering could refer to, but I think you know which one I meant)

Honestly as much as I love Phan 1 I still prefer Pelagial as a whole package. That one album just flows man. Yes, pun intended

I didn't realize people hold Phan 1 over this. Its no contest for me, I prefer this.

But also Pelagial still > this, for now at least.

They're pretty neck and neck for me but calling 1 their finest and giving this a 2 is pretty fucking wild.

I'm really curious how the overall album will feel like. Less than 3 weeks left, let's go with the hype train boys
