Yeah MDN and 13th Step (especially) are bonafide classics. EMotive is very hit and miss, but has some decent tracks (think I rated it a 3). This one doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Certainly not their worst album (emotive, unquestionably) and, like Fear Inoculum, was always gonna disappoint a bit due to very high expectations.
In comparison to their first two, this is lacking. But it’s a very solid album. Highs aren’t as high and has a few clunkers but also has songs like By and down the river and Feathers.
Oh, I like hourglass also. Kindof cringe and dumb, but still infectious imo.

This is much better than Fear Inoculum for sure. I'm still baffled how the avg can be this high for FI

Fear Innoculum is like the epitome of a disjointed album that has no cohesion or direction. Which is mental considering the time between albums, and Tool strikes me (previously at least) as a more thoughtful band than that…

FI is only disjointed because CCT doesn’t belong there. everything else flows well

Album Rating: 2.5
FI only flows because it’s basically the same riff repeated ad nauseam. It spends so long trying to be a “journey” that it completely forgets where it is going. Very little pay off in any of the tracks. Such a disappointing follow up to 10K Days IMO.

quite possibly the worst album name / artwork for a ‘respectable band’ of all time
I should lower my score just for that, seems high tbh

^ agreed
but the .5 is out of respect for Mer De Noms and Maynard's BJJ prowess

Album Rating: 2.5 | Sound Off
Revisiting this again since its release, it suffers from just being so painstakingly boring.
Most of the tracks blend into each other, to the point of sounding like background, lounge music. I miss the rock aspect of their sound, and it becomes so overproduced at times, it is hard to ignore.

i never felt the songs blending together at all. Album could have benefitted from more rockers like Doomed and Talktalk but i genuinely enjoy all the tracks here

Terrible album art, but it's still their second best album.

Wasn't FI just a collection of old ass riffs that Jones resurrected and then tweaked them with Chancellor? I swear I remember reading something about how a lot of the material for FI had been in their back pocket for a while.
Also, yeah this album is butt. Has two decent songs and the rest is just a Maynard circlejerk session with himself.
