Songwriting wise this is the best thing that Agalloch has ever done. It's so cohesive. All of the parts/songs weave in and out of one another. The Mantle does this, but not to the same caliber. And the production on this album rules (even though they hate it).

This is third best Agalloch for me. Damn but their discography has a 4.2 average for me. It speaks a lot of how good and consistent this band is

I'm inclined to agree with Dungeon even if The Mantle is my personal favorite.

"This dips in quality after Waves for me though"
I never understood this sentiment. Fortress I is a really nice instrumental and Fortress II is just as great as Limbs or Waves if not better

Agreed, I love both of these tracks just as much.

The closing trilogy is absolutely amazing. Scars of the Shattered Sky is even better if you add it at the end.

I don't love this as much as I used to but it's still a great listen.

I think The Grain is by far the weakest on this album, but it makes more sense if Scars is on this. Unfortunately I'd only buy this if it had Scars on it (since without it it would be a really low 4.5 or high 4 imo) and that means goodbye £100+ ;-;

Not Unlike the Waves is just incredible! 2nd favorite Agalloch for me

I used to think The Grain was a huge weak point and that I'd never 5 this because of it but my opinion on it completely changed over time. This album means a lot to me emotionally and completely engrosses me from start to finish still and The Grain is a "come down" of sorts from that experience. Sort of easing yourself back into the real world.
