I already tried to subtly hint that if they pressed this (and Midnight) on CD that I'd buy multiple copies of each, but I imagine this is still a pretty low budget operation. I'd say I want to see them sign to a big label, but only if said label lets them do everything exactly the same and merely promotes the shit out of their music. We've already seen what shitty labels can do to our hardworking Sputnik musicians (see Ethereal Shroud's Trisagion thread, and how me shelling out to support Joseph Hawker unveiled more shady operations by Northern Silence).

Anyway, I should start a Sowingcore label and only sign artists from this site.

Cost is absolutely understandable, I’m sure that is crazy considering the industry right now.

SowingCore label kickstarter when? ;)

Tentative top 3: Stars, Koi Pond, T/T

That's solid. Chalk Dust is so powerful though, that would have to be in any top 3 I'd make.

I've been purposely refraining from ranking the tracks though because I'm going to rank every single DT song as part of a list soon, so...no spoilers. Also, this band is so ridiculously consistent (and good) that whatever songs I rank towards the bottom of their 26 track discography will just make me feel like shit for ranking them that low.

I’m imagining the two instrumentals will find their way to the bottom and then Sowing will experience genuine turmoil over the following choices

Hope you like Colton!

You say that but I listened to Melt like 10 times in a row lol, in my top 5 here

Melt's very good for an instrumental intro track. I couldn't in good conscience rank it above the other songs here, but it fulfills its role on the album perfectly.

Speaking of Melt, there's two reprises from St. Mary's Road on there, so that's something you can look for Slex while listening to it stoned and on a loop, haha.

There are nods to the previous album elsewhere, but I won't spoil anything (and also I refuse to pretend that Jack didn't have to point most of them out to my dense self).

Randumb thoughts:

1. Listened to this album three times today, and I am definitely impressed. I don’t want to rate it yet because I want to live with it a few more days, maybe even a week. Despite that, this album is AT LEAST as good as ...Midnight Sky in my mind.

2. “Seven Of Your Favorite Stars” is my top pick after Day 1.

3. I’m anxiously awaiting “Capo 2 Song”.

4. Bilbo and YoYo, be proud. You made an excellent album.

5. The sonics of this album are GREAT! Engineered by Tim and Jack, and mastered by Jack...RIGHT ON!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! Seeing the response to this all day has been pretty crazy to say the least

Also regarding Capo 2 song, we are actually thinking more along the lines of Capo 15 song for the next project

Sowing’s mention of rating DT’s songs made me think about my top five. Here they are in no particular order:

-Flesh To Spirit - that ending...FANTASTIC!

-St. Mary’s Road - probably my favorite. Love me a song about a journey.

-Meet Me In Denver - this song is so charming! I don’t know how else to say it.

-Nickels And Dimes - “I miss you/I breathe in/I wanna go where you’ve been”

-Seven Of Your Favorite Stars - song IS an incredible journey. Bonus points for sleigh bells, especially considering how prominent they are. That last minute is sublime.

I’ve had a couple casual listens and this is twinkly and moderately pretty. I do wish the bass was a little clearer note to note and less of a low end mix overall. That said I appreciate how coming back the other way would gear the album’s overall sound towards something to tinny, less warm. The balancing act there would be a knife edge preference.

I’ll rate after a couple more spins.

Appreciate you listening gnocchi! This was my first full mix and master of an album so I’ve definitely got a lot to learn

That's the same way I felt about this album and Midnight Sky. Both have such a consistently excellent slate of tracks, most of which are growers. Any given song on any given day could be my new favorite.

@Koris appreciate you saying that! I have a friend who we’ve done a couple of shows with who knows a lot about audio production, so it was nice to be able to pick his brain a little bit
