It's always the ones you most expect.
Whether you're focusing on him using his status as band man to manipulate college girls into sleeping with him (ew) or him pressuring these women into sex, none of it looks good.

It's disappointing again, I wouldn't cancel the band over it, I'm not sure they're a band I really feel feel I 'know' the lyricist (Kozelek I thought I 'liked' from his lyrics, far tougher)

It's what it is - at least he's saying sorry and taking on some sort of responsibility for the situations

Kozelek was a tough one for me too, never liked Arcade Fire but I was really disappointed and still can't listen to SKM (so I can imagine how AF fans are feeling)

i don’t see how you could read the account presented by “Lily” and not call it blatant SA

I still listen to Kozelek - I just accept he has a good and a 'dark side' and the dark side is just awful unfortunately

'Benji' just had so many lyrics that really made you like the guy and his world view and that had nothing to do with what he did/that part of his life so I still take what I do from them but some of the 'relationship encounters' lyrics I'm now like '....we move on'

I think what I find difficult about Kozelek is that his personality and his observations are such a huge part of the music's appeal, and knowing all the awful things he was hiding when he was acting candid taints his more 'confessional' songs. I'm just not there yet, maybe I never will be.

I get what you mean about Benji though, although Dogs doesn't come off so great.

Yeah, Dogs was never my favourite anyway thankfully, always a little TMI

@doof I really fail to see where win took any sort of responsibility, pretty sure the closest he comes is saying that he learned a valuable lesson about getting to know people before he sleeps with them, the rest is either generic im-sorrrys or denial

Kompys - 'Butler addresses the allegations once more, speaks to a period of drinking and depression, and apologizes multiple times.'

What more can he do? Start a foundation?

You think he should say he believed these were non consensual encounters?

neek - I can pretend none of this exists or accept it's what it is, the band shouldn't be cancelled/ the band are somewhat tarnished all the same

If the women who have come forward are telling the truth (and lordy let's not turn that into a debate) then "taking responsibility" would in fact entail an admission that he had nonconsensual relations with them. If he can't do that for legal reason then he can't take responsibility for legal reasons

Yeah he is definitely downplaying things/defending himself here. If giving some benefit of the doubt it’s possible he thought things were consensual in the moment and genuinely misread things but that’s still pretty damning. In the absolute best case he’s a mid-level scumbag with some shit going on that really went too far on several occasions.

For what it’s worth though the allegations are all relatively recent (last 7 years). One doesn’t become a piece of shit overnight but personally unless further allegations come forward at worst I’ll avoid the last couple albums (no big loss) and any future material, personally not going for full cancellation but individuals will settle where they will on this.

what's up with this part though:

"They were in touch a few times more, once when Stella attended an Arcade Fire show on the guest list in September 2017, and finally when they had a brief Instagram message exchange two months later. Stella said she attended the show because she 'wanted to at least get something out of the relationship.'"

So we are meant to believe that her encounter with Win Butler was traumatizing, yet she still continued the relationship to extract value out of it, enjoy the guest list treatment etc. It doesn't discredit her case, but it's a little damning.

Colton cancellation is of course a dumb term but in context it’s just my way of saying “I may still listen to some of Win’s music.”

see: power dynamics

she knew at the time how much value win butler had as a performer so she was probably worried about being viewed as the "girl who dumped win butler" for the rest of her life

"the arcade fire guy turned out to be a sex pest" is one of the least surprising things I've heard in all 22 years of my time on this planet.

Just having some type of sexual relationship with 18yo random girl that reached out to him on Instagram saying she loves his music is telling me that he is not a "good" guy. But from the article i got a impression that he havent done nothing terrible like Jesse Lacey, although his behaviour was definitely inappropriate. Also i just remebered that he was talking about women rights at their performance of The Lightening at SNL earlier this year, what a hypocrite.
