"The part where you said Korn's cover slaps and is better than Opeth's."

Can't say I was a big fan of Opeth's cover either though. I don't think Mikael was all that equipped to tackle Layne's vox on it, and the cover seemed a little too safe. In fact, Opeth's cover of the song was the very first time I'd heard of AiC, and it stopped me from checking out their music for years

Exactly Koris, Opeth cover is too safe, pretty weak and lacking in flavor imo

Honestly im kind of flabbergasted at the idea that anyone tcould think that Davis is more equipped to tackle a Layne vocal than Akerfeldt. Not only does Davis lack any power in his singing voice the high notes of the chorus are pitch corrected to a hilarious degree and he STILL goes off key during the bridge. Pure hot garbage.

But yes, the cover is at least instrumentally *slightly* less straight than Opeth's.

Did I even mention Davis? lol

I don't think he was all that good either. But it was the Opeth version that ultimately made Would one of my least favorite songs on Dirt to this day, because once I dug into the deep cuts, I found them so much more rewarding. Basically, what I'm saying is that I wish Would wasn't my entry point into AiC's discog, and I wish Opeth wasn't the band to do it since both bands' styles are so vastly different. Whenever I hear the original version of Would now, I can only think of Opeth's cover

Dude when youre talking about Korns cover being better than Opeths and your rationale is that Akerfeldt didnt do a good job, the implication is that you thought Davis did a better job lol.

But id be interested to know when you last heard Opeths cover and whether you still think they're not suited for it cos i have to hard disagree with that. As somone who loved AIC Iong before I grew to love opeth, I think he did a fantastic job and that the song sounds like it could have been a Deliverance B-side.

But I literally didn't say Korn's cover was better... that was Norma saying that, lol. And how was the implication that Davis was better if I didn't even mention him???

But what I'm getting at is that Opeth's cover was the first AiC song I ever heard, and my view of Would is a bit tainted by the fact that I can only hear the Opeth version when I hear the original. Don't get me wrong, I still like the song, but it's definitely the one song on Dirt I wouldn't mind axing from the tracklist (barring Iron Gland since that's just an interlude)

And in all fairness to Opeth, I don't think any cover has remotely done AiC's 90s output justice anyway. Call me a fanboy or whatever, but there's just something crucial missing whenever I hear anyone else cover these songs

That's what an implication is! If you'd mentioned Davis it wouldnt be implicit it would be explicit lol. But naah fair enough i misunderstood your comment to mean you thought Korn's cover was better.

But you should give Fishbone's Them Bones a spin. It's one of the best covers I've ever heard of anything. Somehow simultaneously faithful while also being funky.

Just as long as Sophia Urine-sta wasnt using an iPad for lyrics. That shit annoys the hell out of me and she did it both times i saw them...although that was their first 2 shows ever so maybe she's better now.

The closest to bad I'd say is God Smack but even that song doesn't drag anything about the album down.
