It’s a shame because the ideas and music is there

him revealing that the band's name is a Fields of the Nephilim reference made my day.

Cosmic Pessimism is one of the goofiest songs I've ever heard

I've been more than fair with ATG and this album and it just blows. It's actually really, really dull and lazy.

gave it my 3rd spin yesterday. This album is so by the numbers for the most part, except for when they try to step outside the box and don't really pull it off well. I can't think of any reason I would listen to this over something like TSD or SOTS. If they are having fun, then that's great, but it's always a little disappointing when legacy bands release painfully average material

woah well that was weird

"Does anyone think To Drink From the Night Itself is their best album?"
Oddly enough, when I revisited the lads' discography for the review, the first two were the ones I enjoyed the most. I still don't know how to rate them hahah.

the first two are byfar the best written no doubt

Terminal Spirit Disease is kind of a transitional release, but it's also cool. It has a personality of its own.

Terminal Spirit Disease is pretty much the only ATG I listen to anymore. Slaughter of the Soul got me into Swedish melodeath, so there's that. I missed the boat on the first two I think.

To Drink is the only one I still listen to, with an occasional Red Sky and TSD, but the production is so bad, a tad worse than on TDFTNI, but I think I like that one the most start to finish as a whole. The atmosphere, the riffs, even the vox man I love it

An interesting exercise is to compare the debut's vocals with this one and try to figure out which ones are better.
