Wow, so this is actually growing on me?
Here, let me ramble on like a blog as I normally do.
I had an unexceptional day, mowed both my lawns, was kind of irritated and exhausted. Made a spliff and went on my back deck to smoke just as a storm was skirting the edge of my city. Enormous, voluminous, towering clouds were rolling by at surreal speeds, and lightning was silently blazing across my view. I got really, really fucking high and put this album on while staring at this DOPE cloudscape instead of just doomscrolling Reddit like I usually would.
For some reason, this started clicking. Still in a sort of guilty-pleasure way. But this is def a grower. Even Black Claws lol. I was really vibing with those big melodies and pleasant electronic atmospherics. Won't rate this yet. I'm sensing a strong, unexpected 3.5.

@thedoom Any opinion is subjective, so i'll start off by saying the second half feels too much like a blend of for example ERRA and Steven Wilson to me. 'Freak' has this indistinguishable SW character to it, especially in it's vocal-writing and unfortunately that happens on quite a few moments for me. The chorus melody in '24 Light-Years' is just close enough to not pass off as a Viva La Vida double while 'These Black Claws' sounds like a less compelling In The Army Now in my brain. Also trying to figure out where the meat is coz for the most part the riffs feel very underdeveloped and lack variety and depth since usually all they do is leading into the chorus and then get repeated. Another critique would be the missing counterpoints and that the sum of all these ideas don't seem to evolve into s.th greater than these ideas by themselves. Still the main weakness is the dynamics. Here is a great example of a song with the concept of dynamics done right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJF5x8IrcRU

I stuck it on walking to the chippie for battered sausage and chips and a can of shandy. Thought it was shite.
Stuck The Who on on the way back.

also whenever someone brings up a perceived similarity to a different song as an inherent flaw of the newer track that instantly invalidates everything else they say, just a very vapid type of criticism.

even if it was inspired by that song, so what thats what art is fucking all about, every piece of art is inspired by other art, thats just how that works and there is nothing inherently bad about that, if anything its something beautiful.

they're a band with a specific style, songs are gonna have similarities to one another, the idea that they're "ripping off their old music" is just stupid and i'm frankly convinced they're just finding reasons to criticise it. like, it's fine to just say it's not clicking bud, you don't need to scrape the barrel for reasons.

Flug, my german buddy. I think you're slightly missing the mark here. I wasn't talking about innovation so this really isn't about bands being an influence to other bands. I was addressing the lack of a distinct identity which occurs to be a knock-out criteria in one situation or another. I'm not saying this is bad by any means, but just don't expect me to come back to this ever again.

"ripping off their old music"
I haven't even listened to their old stuff and literally no one said that.

This is a divisive one for sure. People seemed to love their last, but I remember excitedly popping it on and just feeling utter disappointment that it wasn't the Inmazes sequel/progression I wanted. So I think that taste in my mouth informed my prejudice towards this one. Did a quick messy playthrough without finishing most tracks and probably said something like "yuck" smugly to myself afterward.
Frame of mind man. Did that second playthrough in a happier, stress-free state and loved it. And now I can't get this album out of my head.

na but accusing vola of a lack of identity is seriously preposterous i don't even know how to communicate with you if thats what you truly believe, its like were living in different realities at that point.
