Also I didn't say anything bad about them, they are obviously an amazing band, same goes for Color Haze, but I prefer these guys atm.

Maybe because, comparisons aside, the album fuckin rules...ppl often are more shelving music than actually commiting to it.

@Dewinged I'm under no pretense I can convince you that this record isn't as amazing as you make it seem. I'm just trying to elucidate my point of view regarding this outfit.

The bands I've mentioned have been operating a long time within this scene and have been playing Slift's style far longer than they have. The heavily distorted, fuzzed-out guitar/bass, tons of feedback, which is even applied to the vocals (although those are used sporadically), groovy drums, frequent use of motifs, meandering song-structures typified by extended jams, subtle dynamics, emphasis on texture and layering, those languid bluesy guitar solos, the oddball instrumental addition here and there (synths, or saxophones in Causa Sui's case) and a THICK production. I don't see how Slift moves beyond the aesthetic framework I just laid out, so I suppose it comes down to personal preference whether you prefer them or Colour Haze and Causa Sui.

However, if you consider CH or CS unoriginal, I hate to think of what we'd have to call a band like Slift, who's operating within the same aesthetic framework as those outfits, but has only been releasing albums/EPs since 2017.

Ultimately though, as I said in my earlier comment, to each their own.

Jesus hell I didn't say they were unoriginal, I just said I prefer these guys, in this moment, in my life.

And it's not about who came first, it never was, for anything. When a band sounds good, it sounds good, and that's enough for me.

I like how the mountains of guitar effects and compression set them apart from other bands.

@Dewinged, I was responding to this part of your comment: "I actually apply your argument to those two bands Mori", which itself referred to an earlier comment I made in which I referred to Slift, among other things, as "not really pushing any boundaries". Perhaps unorinigal was the wrong word, yet you didn't exactly specifiy which part of my comment was applicable. I'm just defending some of my favourite psychedelic bands from perceived criticism.

P.S. Slift is unorinigal, but you're right that this needn't necessarily make them bad.

@Bloodshy except they're not special in their excessive use of compression and guitar effects, not even in the specific way in which they apply those tools.

Well, appart from defending your faves you seem rather focused in bringing these guys down, which something tells me somehing different they must have done...and also right, cause many of us are enjoying them 3 folks doing their pretty honest work, as far as I'm concerned. I personaly find the song structures pretty strong here for the genre and they offer a nice pallete of different vibes throughout the album (f.e. tracks like Citadel on Satellite, Altitude Lake and Lions, Tigers and Bears differ so much in vibes from each other but kind of hold together) ...I ll make sure to check those fave bands of yours if I come across them, because considering your expertise on tools, I'm pretty sure they are great.

@Deftone: I'm sure you will enjoy those band's if you enjoy Slift's sound. As I already mentioned, they sound quite similar. I'm not particularly focused on bringing these guys down, I actually felt this album was above average and somewhat enjoyable, I just don't understand the hype. In terms of different vibes, I find it difficult to assess that, considering it's so personal. Different song structures are a given for the jam style of psych rock these guys play though, so that's not really my issue with this outfit's sound.

"Under the mountains of guitar effects and compression, you'll find pretty standard jam/psych/stoner instrumentation. It's been done before by bands such as Causa Sui and Colour Haze, to a far superior degree, I might add. "

lol. im a huge Causa Sui fan, but this is way more distinct in style.
