don't normally love music like this but Beachfront Property came up on my recommended and wow, that was strong.

though there is less humor on this record than on schmaltz, i'm glad it isn't gone completely, particularly with these lines: "they say that these are our exciting days, at least until they ask our age" and "but if I burn this place down, we’d have some heat; at least I’m seeing things more positively"

Very nice work Atari. Love this, love you.

great review, doubt this is my thing. the lyrics are very 'donate to bernie sanders' ... the liner notes are essentially which charity organization matches each song's theme (https://www.instagram.com/p/B7_or2CDw1z/). I like a bit more subtlety when addressing struggle, the band is too blunt about it (but I get the appeal).

I honestly can't wait until this band writes an album with some bona fide hope in it, it'll be a hard 5. Like, even a Wonder Years-style "it sucks and I'm depressed but I'm trying" would be massively cathartic after two albums of straight bumming it out
edit: OK yeah the closer kinda gets there. I'm still a sucker for rehashing lines from earlier in the album, even if I Just Want to Sell Out My Funeral did it better

Way worse than Schmaltz, but still good work from them!

I never got into Schmaltz but I never put much effort into trying to connect with it. The passion on display this time around made connecting with the music & lyrics effortless.

I felt Schmaltz was just as, if not even more effortless to connect with. This one sometimes feels like its trying too hard to connect.

I think the main difference between the Schmaltz and this is that Schmaltz was instantaneous from the listen. This one took me a few listens but I absolutely love it now.

honestly i feel like there's way more humour on this one than on schmaltz, but it's more subtle, like the weathered irony kind.. idk if it's just me but i read a lot of choruses on here (esp losers and generation loss come to mind) as if they're meant to be delivered with half a smirk, like there's supposed to be an 'lol' after each line
