that's so excessive, what exactly are people so enamored with? some of her songs are getting tons of views too.

One word: Payola.

I think a few songs here are just too explicitly plain pop for my liking

"Bags" and "Sofia" are the only memorable ones on here for me and Sofia mostly because it's an unabashed Julian Casablancas/Strokes rip.

Softly is quickly rising up to be a favorite on here. Love the vibe the song has.

Bags is a great song but too many people sleeping on Softly and Sofia. Those tracks are just as good.

my top 3 is that three song run

Same. They're great songs on their own, but Rostam's production makes them even more awesome

just goes to show that talent doesn’t sell, aesthetic and image does

Yeah, can’t possibly be people liking her music, it must be the “image.” Not even sire what image one would say she has. Any excuse to hate on the indie chick I suppose lol

I don't think it is only people genuinely liking her music. seems like a big part of it is her 'coming out' as 'bisexual' so kids glom onto her mediocre music because of that novelty. this review mentions it too. that certainly counts as an 'image', not that there's anything wrong with being open about your own identity but it can effect people's interest. at least the comments on youtube are mostly about that. it's entirely irrelevant to the music being good, but that's the current year for you. but, this is a pretty impressive improvement over the EPs so she has shown growth.
'just goes to show that talent doesn’t sell, aesthetic and image does'
this too, the public is not very demanding when it comes to talent. in fact I've noticed that with extremely talented musicians, people are turned away by virtuosity because they can't relate with it. seems backwards but that's how pop is right now.

I guess I’ve listened to so many lgbt+ indie artists that it’s not novel to me, it just is and has no affect on the music one way or the other. I guess that’s why it doesn’t register as an “image” to me, but maybe that is what the kids glom onto. For me, it’s 100% the music and lyrics that make this great.
