first couple tracks on the new one are pretty wild, and also some of the more beautiful moments I've heard from the band across the last few albums. curious to see how it ends up.

was better than i expected but definitely their weakest. aluktodolo's soundoff hit the nail on the head. gave it a 3.5 but it's really like a ~3.3. not sure i'm gonna go back to it much other than violet seizures, concrete cliffs and children the bombs overlooked. very disappointing after a 5 yr wait

I wasn't expecting this shift from Inter Arma man. Need more spins to get my veredict but first impression left me kind of speechless, they went full Thantifaxath mode in that first track, which is insane. Then they go all Oranssi Pazuzu / Cobalt hybrid mode in the second... Crazy stuff

Ok, I've been spinning the new one enough times already to have a verdict. First of all, I truly appreciate bands like Inter Arma for experimenting with their sound and pushing the boundaries. I must confess I just wasn't expecting this album from IA. It's just weird, trippy, with lots of contrasts, yet it's still unequivocally IA. It's an album difficult to digest and will surely have divisive opinions.
Going into the music, I'm not too keen on the production. It's loud, yet it gives the illusion of space by placing the guitars walled and buried in the mix in a portal-esque fashion and adding lots of psych space fx, and drums placed in the first line with reverb. Problem is this decision benefits only the first song and maybe Gardens. Rest of the album sounds weird. Guitars are asking to be more upfront all the time.
The music itself is... Just as weird. I like it but I feel it's their weakest material since debut. It's a very interesting listen and I wouldn't really say it let me down, but there is definitely room for improvement in this new direction they've taken. They are evolving into a psychedelic form of their brand sound with some welcomed disso black influences. Fans of Oranssi Pazuzu should definitely check it.
PS: Concrete Cliffs has that trippy mastodon vibe, great song
