It's kind of great DDD!

It reminds me a bit of the cosmic weirdness/bombast/over the top/pretentious nature of Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects, their Sol Niger Within album.

I like it.

yeah...pretty much hit or miss...but if you do some more listens you see its pretty much excellent work...ppl are just so demanding with this and then high rate Belzebubs or Devi Town lol

Yeah, never trust the masses. Hype is a strange thing.

Do you know the Sol Niger Within one? Do you actually like Meshuggah? Come to think of it I never met you in one of their threads before I think...

Yeah love Meshuggah and high rate it...its just a massive tiring listen at times...I love Obzen and Nothing and I'm pretty sure we mingled on Violent Sleep of Reason (which is awesome btw...)

Wats Sol Niger Within?

Ah nice! My bad!

Sol Niger Within is a one-track, suuuuuuuuuuuuper weird but awesome album by Fredrik Thordendal, Meshuggah's lead guitarist.

Still dig this a real lot but some of the initial "holy shit" factor has worn off a bit on subsequent listens. I don't see this as an AOTY contender anymore, though it may still crack my top 10

Hi Trif. Awesome rec man that Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects, definitely can see why this reminded you of it.

Yeah it does! Cool, it must be the spacey, who-cares-if-it's-pretentious-as-fuck vibes.

True. I don't think pretentiousness is bad on it's own, depends on how you go on with it. Both Fredrik and these guys understand that and they go all out without shame.

I consider pretentious when you want to be something that you're not. At least its how we use the expression in depreciation.

Mostly agree with this. Another case where I was really digging it while listening, but once it was over, it kind of evaporated and I don't feel particularly compelled to spin it again, at least not right away. I eventually will give it another chance, but for now it's good but kinda forgettable (for me).
