This reminds me of kashmir's zitilities and deus' Ideal Crash, both amazing albums if anyone wants something akin to this.

Started listening to Solar Eyes and thought it was Feel Good Hit Of The Summer by QOTSA for a sec lol

This is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than their last album.

It works together extremely well, not a weak track.

Pretty rare for the sophomore comeback album to be better than the first reunion album. That's usually where things fall apart. I listened through expecting it to get bad any moment and it never did.

No doubt. I wish this got a proper album release, or had been their initial reunion album. Press for the initial was good but this album deserves to have had that fanfare (and even bigger acclaim). Album is awesome, need to revisit.

It's the little things. The Beatles style song is better. The polished up b-side is better. Even the segues feel a little better.
There's an unexpected amount of maturity in the songwriting, especially in the second half. I guess I shouldn't be surprised... this is the band that did "Fantastic Planet" after all. I feel silly for ever doubting.

I remember being blown away by the opening track and not feeling the same about another track afterward. Will have to give another listen.

That's consistent with my experience at least. The opening track is the only one I don't care for. We just have different taste, I'd think.

The Ideal Crash is great but I can t’imagine a Failure album sounding like it

need to revisit

ideal crash is an alt rock-ish album that ive always found a lot of immediate appeal, as well as depth. This album reminds me of that feeling i get when I listen to it. Shiner' discography also hits me like this, Jawbox too in spots.

damn this is a 5

Shiner feel much closer to me in style than dEUS, even if they remind me more of Hum than Failure usually. The thing that does remind me of dEUS is the diversity of styles they employ on this album. It seems a bit more 'meta' than Failure's previous albums.
The Life and Times, Allen Epley's later band, is the closest thing I can think of. Check out "Day Twelve" on "No One Loves You Like I Do".

So glad for the love this still gets! Major listening from last year. Album is sooo good its crazy they pulled it off this freshly! I mean I really love FP but its more a product of its time than this...from Beatles to grunge, to alt rock and still is something new and unique...imo
|
| |
good point on life and times MR, need to dive into their stuff.
I cant get into FP for that reason, I think. The grunge factor is too high there.
