like I've said when this thread starded: Sarah's been flying under the radar for a while now. she's embarking on her first tour in a few days & I believe she's still working at a coffee shop in Louisville, yet she seems very content with the warm reception and little buzz she's been getting so I'm really happy for her

she doesn't have a lot of traction cause shes not a industry plant like phoebe bridgers

shut up with that about my future wife

not saying she sucks, but like she had a track on a apple commercial before she even had a album out. whereas i remember when tomberlin self released this on her bandcamp over a year ago before having to take it down because the small label she is on now wanted to give it a proper release it

Nothing wrong with having an Apple commercial, if it helps to spread your music, why not taking the chance. I'm sure Sarah would love to quit that coffee shop to focus on her music 24/7 too. (Which I hope she does soon).

Going to give this another shot -- the ratings/users here are too enticing.

I agree nothing is really wrong with it, but most artists have to gain a following by putting albums out or touring extensively first before ever having the type of opportunity to be a on a big commercial or something.
She really got a spot most artists will never get the chance to have, and I just think there are a lot of other singer-songwriters out right now that are just as deserving if not more than phoebe. hopefully tomberlin gets a shot at something like that.

Pheobe has the talent to back it up and then some so I don't mind

Wonder what is it that didn't click with you Blush.

Gmember is completely right. Saying she's an industry plant isn't commentary on her talent, just on the industry connections she used to get ahead of her peers.

Any Other Way is still neck and neck with Grand Paradise for best opener of 2018 for me

I think she's too ~airy~ and slight for my ears; I often like that, but coupled with this kind of song-writing it doesn't do much for me for some reason. Very talented, though, I see the appeal.
And Phoebe certainly had a lot of connections. I mean, Ryan Adams produced her EP and Conor Oberst appeared on her album, for one. She did really well for herself. Now that I think about it, Rob Moose of Bon Iver also did strings on that album.

i find the instrumentation here to be really bland. Bridgers isnt great on the guitar either, but the way the album was produced with all the extra bells and whistles makes it a lot more interesting. plus her lyrics are better.

What I like about this girl is the rawness and simple tones of her music, no bells and whistles, some Grouper worship here, some folky arpeggio there and nothing else. Plus I like her voice more than Phoebe's.
