Just posted a news article, hopefully mods will approve it soon. That news came out of nowhere, everyone just quit this week. Dunno if Robb will come back with a different band or not.

I hope he does, he's a great vocalist, would be a shame if he retired then and now

Honestly just cut like 5 songs and you have yourself a really good Machine Head album.

So the little dictator is in the studio laying down some new HEAVY track, yay... I think the most appalling thing to come out of the recent Phil interview (even more egregious than Robb unilaterally usurping the band and ruining Phil's riffs for fucking California Bleeding) is that the reception for Is There Anybody Out There is what pushed Robb in this direction. I mean did people actually like that fucking song? It's the most horrendous piece of garbage that would make Nickelback blush and I remember nothing but ridicule over that song. This whole MH situation is making my head spin but I'm at the very least grateful that they're not back-and-forth slandering each other in the press or suing each other. They seem to be taking the high road all around, including Robb who I've lost massive respect for over this whole situation. I still have affection for him but the dude fucked up mightily.

Christ this is bad. One of the few mainstream metal bands getting a self castration.

Unimaginably bad - agreed.

Wtf, they built up a good following and established a winning formula for themselves only to piss it all away. Robb used to seem like a cool down to earth dude, did Trump getting elected break his mind or something?

He lost his wits before that. Trump winning just brought him to the next level. Still hilarious watching him post videos of himself going to women's' rights marches and crying. Fool and a pussy.

That slam poetry video still cracks me up

Lmao classic, man. Very funny watching him then try to salvage their career shortly after too by announcing the Burn My Eyes lineup reunion.

It's the Flynn routine: jump on a hype train - fail miserably - go back to the roots - repeat.
Just like when he rebuild some of his cred with Empires-Blackening-Locust after the rapcore (including b-grade nu metal-style bleached spiked hair, flashy tracksuit and black nail polish look) catastrophe.

Not to pile on (cause I still have a shred of affection left for Rob somewhere...), but he recently was quoted as saying the backlash to this album was due to the alt-right. The man has become staggeringly delusional.
|
| |
Lol yeah it's kinda sad to see really
Because when he wants to, he's definitely able to make some stellar mainstream metal

For any life-long Machine Head fan one who doesn't just like BME/TB then this is no way near a 1/5, much closer to a 3.5. The Sputnik score is laughable.Yes my 5/5 is greatly exaggerated of course but I like the risks Robb took with this one. And as someone said if you remove some tracks (maybe 4 or 5) you'd have a decent MH album.
I don't personally care for the cringy 'California Bleeding', Razorblade smile, 'Grind you down' (annoying) 'Hope begets hope' (boring filler) or the unecessary depressing remix of Bastards AKA 'Eulogy'.Some other tracks cold've done with a lot more editing/re-writing namely Kaleidoscope, 'Behind a mask' (still pretty cool though this one), 'Psychotic', 'Bastards' and 'Beyond the pale'.
Highlights are still the excellent title track, Robb throwing caution to the wind on the fun 90s throwbacks 'Triple beam' and 'Volatile' (love the TMTC vibe). 'Screaming at the sun' and 'Heavy lies the crown' (historical epic!)are great fun too. I like parts of Kaleidoscope and Psychotic but they get a bit grating too alas.
So to sum up, it's not one of the band's best works but the overall score here just highlights how predictable and narrow-minded most people actually are and is why I don't take any ratings seriously be it on Sputnik or elsewhere. I'd rather judge with my own ears and my own mind as to what I like.
