Now that you mention it yeah we have haha. Obviously I'm bias but I love the Unraveling as much as the latest 3 and Gauze (if you have the 7 songs and Macabre like the Japanese Deluxe edition, so 8 songs). In studio I like the original Obscure defiantly more but live I like them just as much.

I agree with you on that assessment of Obscure. I don't think you're biased, you're supposed to have favorites :P. I do looove Unravelling and I sort of want to 4.5 it (it's like a 4.25). DSS is still sitting at a 4.6 and I don't want to slight it. For whatever reason, I still like Arche more than DSS haha

4.5 it. Do it, do it :P

That's fine, everyone's got their favorites. I'd need to listen to Arche/DSS/Uroboros again to determine which I like more but I think nowadays Uroboros would be the winner because it has in my eyes the best production and DSS has been bought down by how good the live versions are. Live there's no contest that DSS Budokan is the king.

DSS Budokan is definitely the best 500%.

Ahh, Uroboros is easily my favorite though Arche is the one I've listened to most. Ware Yami Tote is still my favorite Diru song but the middle section of Arche (Tousei to Kukoku minus Chain Repulsion and Sustain the Untruth) has many of my favorite Diru moments.

My fav Dir song is Beelzebub so both Uroboros and Arche get shafted there lol

All their last three are pretty interchangeable, although I'm still leaning towards the order from my list. Favourite song remains "Different Sense".

That's crazy how much I feel like I'm missing out on something since I like Arche more than DSS. It seems like for everyone the last three albums are fairly interchangeable but Uro and DSS are generally regarded as 1&2. I probably just like the more alt metal leaning material which is why Uro and Arche are my top 2. My favorite song on DSS is a tie between the most death core song (Yokusou) and the ballad Vanitas. Vanitas probably edges out a teeny bit, but damn the album is filled with monstrous riffs.

You'd be surprised, it heavily depends on person to person. There are people who hate DSS and love Arche, either way the run of 3 + Unraveling is gold.

Common choice is Uroboros, as reflected by averages on here, but there are also the groups that dig Gauze or this the most.

Damn ~ from what I've read about people who actively commented on the threads it seemed like Arche was their least fav of the 3 as it didn't push as many boundaries. I think that it has some of the best songwriting though which is what really gets me. But I totally feel you, those releases are epic.

Wait whaaa, some people really dig this or Gauze most??

A lot of people connected with this one first because the band's first foray into concerts in the West was during its touring cycle.

As for Gauze, back when it released it was sort of a culmination of everything good from 90's visual kei with some added elements and it still holds up incredibly well to this date if you're into J- rock, plus you can notice how it also influenced bands from the new millennium.

If you have any nostalgia for Withering, it's gonna grip you really hard due to some of it's guitar passages feeling so large and epic. Plus it has The Final which alone is gonna make the album a fan favorite no matter what. As for Gauze I like it as much as the modern 3, minus MASK every song is a winner and even then I still like that song.

don't know what the general concensus is regarding their best album (i presume uroboros) but i think my fave is probably dum spiro spero

The Uroboros Remaster (since fuck the original) is overall considered the best. DSS is my favorite as in the actual songs are the best ones however the live versions have hampered my enjoyment of the studio product, makes it sound clinical in comparison for me but I can't call that a fault on the album itself and I don't really see anyone else having that problem. I used to jam DSS constantly and it was my fav album sometime a year ago.

Uroboros has usually been considered the top choice even ignoring the remaster. It is actually a pity some huge fans of it might not have ever heard its alternate and better sound.

ah cool, i have a copy of the original uroboros but the remaster seems cheap enough that i might pick up a copy at some point

You'll find stuff to enjoy there, especially if you also check live versions. You heard The Unraveling mini-album with remakes of older songs?

Remastered Uroboros is essential so I recommend picking that up, if you've only heard the original then I can see you bumping your rating for it since it's such an improvement. I second The Unraveling, since if you include Macabre on it from the deluxe edition to make it a 45 minute album (in my eyes it's the 'true' ending to the EP) it's my fav Dir album. As for their older stuff if you like the band now you might as well check them (especially Gauze and Withering) but it's drastically different to their 2008 onwards stuff so keep that in mind.

I love Gauze, it's number 4/5 for me (in the same area as the Unraveling). It's probably my favorite j-rock release and definitely one of the more intuitive "alt rock" releases I've ever heard as well. I see what you mean with the Final being on here as well, that makes sense.

Sin, definitely check out the remaster. It's absolutely amazing.

Gauze has so much variety and an atmosphere which hasn't been replicated by anyone, classic. Macabre/Kisou in my eyes are no where near that class however live that changes entirely and both are really unique efforts worth trying, both having their devotees.
