Listened to it in .wav after listening to "Incurso" (also in .wav)... then switched to "Omnivium" on spotify (320 kbps) and... Holly Molly! The production on Akroasis is horrible and Omnivium sounds better even in an inferior file format. Seriously, what the fuck were they thinking?! The sound stage is fucked and the whole record sounds muffled (too much compression?).
Is it a good tech death album? For sure. Is it a good Obscura? Barely (mostly because of the production, song writing is the usual Obscura except the epic finale which impressive, even by Obscura standards). Plus the new drummer isn't nearly as good as Grossmann (which isn't really surprising, very few are) or at least the jazz influences on the drums have shrunk quite a lot (that's why I'm surprised to read people saying here it is their most jazzy album. From a drummer point of view, it is absolutely not).
I have no doubt the next Fallujah will pulverize Obscura this year (and I will not even speak of Gorguts' next EP... every time Gorguts releases something it's AOTY or EPOTY material).
Omnivium will remain the best Obscura album for me (no clue were the hate for this album comes from, it's basically a better produced Cosmogenesis on testosterone).

Well, I know the kind of production you like and I guess we'll never agree. A tech death record must be cristal clear with a wide sound stage. Akroasis got neither.
Edit: Not sure if it's the bass guitar or the kick that is somehow muffling everything but that's how it feels on my system.

It got ripped the same way Incurso was (both from the original CD, on the same computer, in the same format).
The headphones are JBL S700 (the live stage bullshit not active, of course) and the DAC/amp is a FiiO E18 (without the bass boost of course), hardly shitty headphones and a really decent amp for metal.
By listening some songs side by side I think it may be the kick of the drums that is a bit too bassy (by equalizing the 31 Hz band down to oblivion it gets a bit better, which shouldn't be something you'll have to do on an album mixed correctly). The drum kit in general has way less "attack" than on Omnivium which is a shame.
I'm far from being the only one thinking the production is sub-par to what Obscura use to do btw.
The previous Fallujah wasn't impressive production wise, but it wasn't nearly as bad as many people said once you equalized it properly. I hope they improved on Dreamless (I will wait for the album to be released to have an opinion).

I really do like this band, but for some reason I can just never seem to really get into them as much as I'd like. They're just not fun enough, I guess.

the 2nd half of Centric Flow will always be the best thing this band has written. they're best when they keep things simple imo, because they actually have a good sense for melody, just a bit too derivative I guess. Incarnated might be their best song, mostly because it sounds like a lost Death song lol
