I still don’t understand why. The majority of these tracks have such strong songwriting, especially compared to the new album. And I still like the new one, but yeah, this is so much more mature and dynamic and unrestrained.

people were probably like oh no this doesn't sound like big dumb pop punk (or whatever you want to call the debut to make yourself feel better)

^ little too early for its time i spose. however, i'll admit i hated a lot of the early 10s crossover stuff on first listen for the same reasons. which is shame cuz i'm sure bands like title fight and these dudes prolly gotta lot of heat for these albums and didn't get to further explore/expand their sound

Yeah definitely wish they would have stayed here or at least developed the Youth / As You Please sound. Can’t believe their newest album has a higher avg than this.

7 years later and I’m still completely clueless as to how this album was so poorly received. Barely a 3? Most averages on this site make sense to me but this one is still confounding

I mean it goes beyond sput tho, this is considered their worst no matter the website/critic. So much better than their most recent full length

It has a similar sound to one Brand New album. this is no more BN worship than every thrash album is Metallica worship. Always found that criticism to be completely bizarre

Like come on, Ten is fucking badass and sounds nothing like anything brand new ever did. It also sounds nothing like the grunge bands they’re supposedly ripping off here. Just totally clueless, somebody tell me what I’m missing here

the way this similar to brand new makes me love it even more. but it's not about it at all. for me, it's the deepest citizen album, it grows so damn well
