i understand the criticisms on this that "lol butts the beats are old". i do the same thing to lots of other records. but in this situation, they totally aren't. adrian younge is a real scholar of hip-hop production, apparent by his crazy combination of rza worship, dilla/ black milk drums, motown soul, premo style cuts, and using ennio morricone / spaghetti western influences as a binding agent. the beats are really incredible for heads and casual rap fans alike imo.

if you want to hear some pretty derivative 90s stuff, check out anything the alchemist has ever touched. or even (as a microcosm) doppelgangaz / czarface... albeit those were dece this year (not horrible by any means)

it's the best ghostface record easily. most cohesive and certainly the best production he's ever had. i've got supreme clientele at a 4.5

damn

it's not cohesive in like ANY sense (except, i guess, the thematic callbacks to cocaine) but fishscale has always been my favorite. i'll peep this though

i like this way more than fishscale. probably at a 4 for that along with iron man

the drums on this are out of this world. makes me think of black milk's album of the year a bit, except that was a live drummer i think...

Instrumentals are boring without raps and raps are boring without instrumentals imo

I don't see it... Great album, which is expected being from Ghostface and all, but I don't get what's so special about this. I might up it to a 4 but I don't see it going any higher.

Brilliant review though.

Adrian younge is the difference maker for me. The beats are why i didn't dig Apollo much
