Jamming this now. I think I'm in the minority here but I still say it's Suffocation's best post-reunion album. The clean production is the only real downside but at least it still sounds good / it's organic sounding. If this had the same production as Blood Oath or something this would prolly be a 4.5 for me tbh

Suffo's s/t and Blood Oath were perfect examples of how to do clean yet organic death metal production.

Eh, I think I was using the wrong word when I said "clean". This album doesn't have that thick low-end like those albums do, that's what I was referring to. I just don't think the production here is bad, it's still organic and everything, it just lacks in comparison to the others.
Musically, I think this is way better than either.

I stopped at Blood Oath but I should really give this one a shot. Regret not catching them live before Frank left

Frank is the man, but the Disgorge guy does a really good job, and i stopped at this album, remember liking it much more than Oath, i haven't heard anything from the last one

I dunno man, i don't trust Suffo ratings on this site, Souls it's arguably my favorite album and it's very underappreciated here

Relistening to this and it continues to be great! Yeah, everyone who mourns the low end crunch in the guitars is right, but apart from the low end even the much maligned production is pretty good imo. The songs are overall great, the highlights 'cycles of suffering' and 'Sullen Days' are even up there with their best IMO. It is less 'mean' than their classic stuff but is well thoughtout, crushingly groovy and has top notch playing and creativity on details, especially in guitar lead and drum work . For me it is a great synthesis between the classic era and 'Souls to Deny'.
Unfortunately all of that can't be said for its successor thou, that one actually deserves the criticism it gets...

The prod is def a bit too clean but it certainly isn't bad as was the case with Darkest Light. This is a solid album but I never have a desire to jam it when their old stuff exists ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
