Just heard this. Some tracks are good, some are bad, some are simply alright. Overall a rather inconsistent album. I love the last track though. More of that please guys.

Really starting to like the song Octopus. Thought it was one of the weaker tracks initially.

This surprisingly does not suck. And yeah, I couldn't even listen to Octopus the first time, but it definitely grew on me.

I like Octopus until I remember how The Klaxons did it way better on Myths of the Near Future...
"The two bonus tracks on this are pretty fucking meh though"
I actually think the bonus ones are some of the best material on here.

They're nothing tracks though. No personality or flair on either of them, while the rest of the record is doused in it. Mean sounds like its the shittest of the outtakes from Weekend while Leaf Skeleton sounds like a dead bloody leaf

Then we must have very different opinions, because to me the bonus ones sound more like Bloc Party than most songs on the actual record, and at least give off the feeling the band was giving a damn.

They sound more like Weekend era Bloc Party yeah...but Bloc Party always changing is vital to them being them. Also I adore Weekend and I still think they're crappy tracks

Yeah I know, and I love them for being so ambitious. But idk, I craved for some vintage Bloc Party after most of the rather hollow tracks on the regular album.

I dunno what you're hearing man. Theres nothing hollow about the haunting story of Day Four, the quiet beauty and new take on old ideas of Truth, the thunder of Kettling...

Everyones opinion seems mixed on this.

I'll admit the lyrics are decent, albeit not as compelling as A Weekend In The City, but the music is the most important part. And I'm just not convinced.
|
| |
I feel my rating would have been higher if they kept the post-punk influences up throughout the whole album.

Eh, I actually think aside from Day Four, the lyrics aren't too good at all. I was referring to the music haha

Anyone else think the track order is terrible? It just goes from hard, to slow, over and over song to song. I really think this album wouldn't have these mixed reviews if the songs actually flowed.
I do like the album though. I find the softer songs to be the best. Favs so far:
So he begins to lie
Octopus
Real talk(probably my fav TBH)
Day four
Valis
Team A
Truth
I actually think kettliing and a few others are kinda weak. It sounds like bloc party trying to be a heavy band when heavier band have pulled off that sound better. Kettliing is the biggest smashing pumpkins rip off I've ever heard. It's not even debatable during that solo.

Yeah plus the final track doesn't feel like a final track, it just ends

The final track is the dumbest on the album. Comes out of nowhere for no reason and just leaves the album ending on a stunted note

Don't know how to quote here but to the person above, I kinda like the final track. It has that fucked up loud mess sound like Ares. It's like Ares as a full rock track.
As a closer I do kinda agree

you just copy and paste it and put quotes if you want or just put @captain north or just ^ or whatever

Eh, ish but it's not a Bloc Party song. Like I know they experiment and change, but there's nothing that makes them great in it. It's just a loud mess with no intelligence. Plus its just out of place

Can't decide if I like this better than Weekend.
