i tried listening to it several times, but most of the songs come off as blues crap or repetetive

take it back, mother's lament and blue condition are like 1/5, but others like strange brew, sunshine of your love and tales of brave ulysses are really good

To each his own, obviously, but Take it Back is not so bad and Blue Condition works well within the context of the album. Mother's Lament is poor though for me as well.

However, the magic of this one is in the feeling of psychedelia fused blues, the proto metal elements and the excellent performances of the three members.

Dunno about that MSLG. Album's got its bluesier moments, psych ones, heavier, flower power and its only half an hour or so.

Not saying it's the best album Clapton has ever participated but considering the time it was released and its content, it's quite impressive.

i dont think that an album being pioneering is a compensation for poor quality of songwriting

I'd be the last to tell anyone to rate an album highly because it's innovative or influential. I just love this album because of its content. Not saying that you should love it too but every member is brilliant on here and with a couple of exceptions I find the songwriting pretty solid. On top of that, it's also a significant release.

Not sure how you can say the songwriting is poor dawg

"It's getting near dawn,

When lights close their tired eyes

I'll soon be with you my love,

To give you my dawn surprise"

It's psychedelic bliss all the way through

I dig, and it really only has a few bad tunes. In terms of originality, it's clearly influenced by the Doors and Hendrix, but it's not too far behind. We're talking the most transformative year in rock.
