Kind of surprised at all of the negativity for this band. I can understand some just not caring for the type of music, but I think both of their albums are stellar. Whereas their debut focused heavily on noise and "ohs" "whoas" and "ahhhhs" Celebration Rock is more lyrically driven which is a huge improvement.
All of the original songs on here are excellent, with nods to "Fire's highway" and "the House That Heaven Built." The only minor misstep is indeed the Gun Club cover "For the Love of Ivy," which isn't a bad cover, it's actually a very good cover but of a song that isn't that great. The bands hit or miss with covers usually - though "Jack The Ripper" is by far their best and should have been on the album as well. I gave it a 5, it's AOTY for me so far, and I'm sure it'll stay that way. Excellent live too.
