I did. 'twas a good review. I was just asking the general public of commenters (word?) what they thought too. I'll just listen to it myself when I get the chance though, didn't even know it was out yet. :o

Review says it all and I pretty much agree. Everything here is "upgraded".

I don't even know how can Mr Silveri think the songwriting got worse. It's pretty much the opposite. Maybe he doesn't like the "bass wankery" here and here or sometimes the lack of transitions, but they were never a really good at that. I don't know if you really care, but it's would be interesting to see why you think that. I'm just curious.

Odd, just downloaded this today. The vocals are hard to get used to, but I really like the instrumentation.

Because everything on here is a bit directionless and flat. They've written all these intricate melodies and strung them together really well, but there's very little that's memorable about this set of songs. At least on their previous work, almost each song had a distinct identity structured around certain melodic pivot points that would make each song stand out on it's own, but I don't get any of that here. Here everything is really cool but it's so indistinct. You could take phrases from one song and swap them into another song and no one would notice.

There are a few cool moments like the piano/singing moment on Orange Vigilantes and a few parts on Silence This Parasite, but then everything else just bleeds into everything else. Makes me not care about what's going on in the songs. It's a good album, but nothing special.
