Yes because a band who cares about their craft is going to approach their lyrical themes in such ways as those expressed on Imaginary Sonicscape ("Die in my slaughtergarden." Are you fucking kidding me?). And stretching out four minutes of boring, tried metal with vocals that sound like the Japanese equivalent to a baritone suffering an anal prolapse is no more creative or emotionally satisfying than said lyrical throwaways. Then you have their "vanguard" elements which don't stand out from the rest of the field in any other way then how awful they are. I mean their psych/electro elements are almost always watered-down versions of the crop of bands who sprung up as disco was turning into new-wave, their jazzy bits sound like a high-school jazz band whose band director hasn't been doing his or her job, and their German symphonies don't live up to Sigh's ambitions whatsoever. At least have the talent to pull something off before you act as though you can. Then, they just put all their stuff on a plat without bridging the elements so that it seems like there's a bit of sense that goes into what they're doing. They seem too lazy to create any unifying themes so their sound is original. If you can think of some way to make new wave and black metal sound like a coherent new genre then you deserve the praise Sigh is unjustly receiving.

Bitchfork:
They're hardly black metal. You have a way of persuading others to believe that your opinion is well-founded because you articulate your points well, but you also go off on tangents into obscurity with ridiculous comparisons and senseless rhetoric, and to be perfectly honest, your criticisms sound like that of a person who's listened to their albums once and then formed an opinion. As for the jazz sections: you're taking them too seriously, and it's funny because it seems to really elude you, but Sigh aren't always being as serious as you think they are. You're forgetting that they, like a lot of bands you discredit, like to have a little fun with their music. As far as you saying their 'German symphonies don't live up to their ambitions', well, that's as easily dismissed as it was presented: yes, they do. You and I just aren't going to agree on this, and I'd rather not draw this whole thing out any longer than it needs to be, but I fail to see how they're as awful as you seem to think they are.
Edit: I can pick out ridiculous lyrics out of context from various artists you like as well, but that's just redundant.

Their early works were stereotypical black metal and now that influence has just been diluted a tad.

I thought for sure I'd come back to a wall of text, lol.

I was going to make an argument about that claim but I decided that you were going to argue with it in some way that would sound really stupid to me so I'll not anger thee.
