It's funny how I get attacked for being too harsh on this album and then complimented for mentioning they're not ripping Soilwork off.

Listening to this album, I didn't like it at first. I came into this with too high of expectations because I absolutely loved Christian's vocal performance on Holographic Universe. I knew Scar Symmetry had two new vocalists but that didn't prepare me for it the first time.
After a couple months and some new CD's, I finally decided to go back and check this one out again and needless to say, it has turned out to be another solid release from this band.
Just because Christian is gone does not mean the new guys fail to rock out, cause they sure as hell don't fail at all.

First this album really appealed to me, then it plummeted, but now it stabilized at 3,5. Just because this album isn't as good as their previous ones doesn't mean it still can be compared with all the other bands of the genre which are far, far below. I understand the disappointment, as Scar Symmetry set the bar really high with PBP and HU, but disappointments are part of life. You people don't need to be so emotional and give this album a 2 just because it's not as godly as you hoped it would be. It deserves a 3,5 imo.

To me this album was just completely bland and utterly annoying. Sad to see Scar Symmetry fade... loved Pitch Black Progress and Holographic Universe, and their first album wasn't too bad.

They will get up after this one. BTW, I think this album needs a lowering to 3, unfortunately. I can't seem to keep interested in it, while SiD and PBP have great lasting value to me. Holographic is super pleasant to listen to as well.

Well, to be completely fair, Alvestam's highs aren't the most powerful too. He sounds like he's yawning when he does his highs, and sounds like they strain him. His mid cleans lack power too.

Was spinning this earlier, then figured I should spin Solution .45's album right after. I honestly feel too people got a man-crush on Alvestam. Analyze the music critically and apart from the clean vox there's not any notable big difference from pre-DMD SS. While Lars' vox are hit and miss (Iconoclast/Noumenon = win, Ascension Chamber = assbleed), I'm growing to like the change. On the other hand, Alvestam's current projects are dull because his vox are overly poppy and repetitive. Because he's always featured so prominently.. it just makes them indistinguishable.
TLDR > Looking forward to the new album.

honestly, i have no idea what they were thinking, the vocals ruin this, to metalcore, and the "clean" vocals are even more incoherent then the rough ones.

Well imo vocals were pretty good. The problem was that many of the songs where just a repetition of a verse and a chorus so songwritting was the problem at most part. Songs I liked a lot where The Consciousness Eaters, Noumenon and Phenomenon, Ascension Champer, Sculptor Void and Pariah. The Iconoclast, Nonnhuman Era and Radiant Strain where good too.
