Got another listen in, impressive. I think my favorite track is "When the Lights are Down" right now, but all of them are pretty damn awesome.

I'd throw Blind Guardian in there as one of the rulers of power metal, but that's just me, I know a bunch of people don't care for them as much, but they're my fav power metal band. But yeah balls, Lost Horizon is pretty damn awesome. Awakening the World particularly slays, I think its much better than A Flame to the Ground Beneath, but I know poet and a few others think the opposite.

Definitely like Kamelot...though I only have this album and "Ghost Opera - The Second Coming"...definitely like it. I can't dive into comparing it with others in the genre (like Nightwish and such...I like Nightwish's latest release over what I own from them).

I agree with bodominflames, by the way, on the Blind Guardian being rulers comment.

very few albums give me the sense of emotion that the black halo and epica have...

truly genius albums. You did not explain the story enough though. I believe that is half the genius. If you know the story the actual musics effect grows two fold.

Kahn is the best vocalist in power metal.

I think he's one of the best vocalists in any genre, but of course I adore this album/band so....

I will say though, Epica does a slightly better job with the story. At least with the interludes. And I didn't give it my full attention for quite awhile.

I was listening to this for, say, the 20th time the other day and finally noticed some awesome bass lines. Real shame you can't hear him for 80% of the album or so.

I know everyone hates Dragonforce, but I Still quite like them.
Actually, I was going to get some Kamelot the other day, but I ended up getting a blind guardian cd instead

Okay, Ive checked out a few more of the songs off this album... This band is absolutely phenomenal. The songs slow down at just the right moments, and the guitar riffs are spot on. Not to mention, the drumming complements the music so well, it completely retains an epic sound without sounding the least bit redundant. March of Mephisto displays this very well. Not to mention his kit sounds incredible as well. Loving this so far

I disaree about the 'mediocre drumming' point in the review - I think the drumming here fits the music perfectly, and that's surprising considering I thought the drumming was mediocre/too basic on Karma. Grillo is pretty damn awesome on March Of Mephisto, When The Lights Are Down and Memento Mori, and even on the more basic tracks like The Haunting he's still pretty interesting. This Message Edited On 03.08.09
