"In the 2000s, The term hardcore has been applied to some bands that play death metal, metalcore or thrash metal. Typical of this new genre are breakdowns and harshly delivered vocals; sometimes verging on death metal growls."

holy fucking shit are you serious? Where is that quote from? That website should be destroyed and its author arrested.

"Hardcore" is just short for hardcore punk. There is NOTHING else to it. I don't know what your faux-"hardcore" friends convinced you of, but it's totally wrong. I'm so sick of morons calling metal "hardcore".

number one i'm not a fanboy cause i dont even like this band. number two i used that quote to make a point that just because hardcore meant something 25 years ago when it started doesn't mean it still means the same thing today. i understand the origins of the term hardcore. i know this. but sounds change over decades. there are a lot of bands who keep the original concept of hardcore in their sound and their are bands like this one who over the years have developed it into a different sound.

i dont have faux-"hardcore" friends cause my friends generally arent big music fans. i have one friend who is a music fan but he is strictly melodic black metal with some death metal thrown in there.

Jesus Christ. You idiots went through five pages of arguing over which subgenre these guys belong to?!?!? Sheesh. They're a decent band but it still doesn't deserve a four. I think if you really want to fit into the "this band is OK" category, then you should rate their album accordingly. 4 does not equal "okay". A 3 or 2.5 would be sufficient. And really guys, metal is metal is metal. Don't argue over what band is pigeonholed where, or which deviation is better. It's all metal at the end of the world.

This is the most laughable first few pages of a review ever, only rivaled by my A7X ranting.

I will just say this: people, please stop using Wikipedia quotes to try to prove a point when arguing genres.[/quote]

Hilariously enough that's what you're doing. Judge things by how similar they are to the pioneers of a genre.

Metalcore should resemble bands like Botch and Skycamefalling.

Death metal should resemble bands like Entombed and Immolation.

Melodic death should resemble bands like At The Gates and Dark Tranquillity.

etc.

4 does not equal "okay".

this is one of my favorite albums...

I wasn't so much agreeing on whether these guys are melodeath or not, I was just trying to help mappy out since you guys were all ganging up on him without even justifying your stances.

These guys are closer to "deathcore" than Melodic Death Metal. I don't find them that Melodic, more like straight up Death Metal with melodic solos with hardcore breakdowns and lyrics.

TBDM is Melodic Death Metal.

Light This City is more Thrash/Melodic Death Metal.

lol, I hope this doesn't put more fuel on the fire:D

I don't consider this band melodic death metal. I like the Black Dahlia Murder, but I also don't consider them melodic death metal (that's just me though). Personally, I don't think any melodic death outside of mainland Europe is worthy of my ears.

That pwnage was quite enjoyable to read.

I found this album dull. The high pitched vocals just annoyed me, and the music wasn't anything I'd tell my mum about.

Their not metalcore. Their not melodeath. I'd say that they are hard to define.....more like Deathcore/Grindcore.

Despite what others say i still find this album very enjoyable.I don't like the members, nor do i like their look. I do however enjoy the one thing that matters the music. Not everyone likes the same thing, thats fine. I how ever love this album I think the breakdowns are sick, the vocals scathing and unrelentless and the guitar and drums why not very technical are very enjoyable. For Stevie Wonders Eyes and I Used To Make Out.. are metal staples i think.

The vocals are terrible.

The drumming is okay, nothing interesting though. Plus, they used to be the biggest Norma Jean ripoff ever. Everything about them is lame - enough said. The review wasn't too bad I guess.
