Well to prefer false black metal to raw is kinda lame but different strokes and all.

Best Mayhem is their latest in my opinion, is that a fatally wrong opinion?
|

that depends on how production it is?

That's where you're wrong, opinions about what kind of music you like more can't be wrong because it's completely subjective. They can only be wrong when dealing with objective matters, which musical taste is not. You can disagree with somebody's tastes or whatever however much you want, but that doesn't make you right. I don't know why I bothered to type this when I know you'll all vehemently disagree and call me a fucktard but whatever I don't even care anymore.

it sure would have been cool to be growing up in the areas where this style was constantly brewing in the early 90s
I can only envision the live shows.

I love the irony of defending subjectivity with the line 'That's where you're wrong'.
Music, art, or pretty much anything, is never entirely subjective, and to believe so is completely retarded. Just because you like something or think it's better than something else does not make it so. Opinions need to be informed to have validity and it is obvious your opinions on the matter are not so, hence my relative comfort in calling you out.

Production is good? I dunno. Actually the new one is really cool with how low the guitars are mixed. I like all kinds of black metal production though. The super modern sound of Anaal Nathrakh, the horribly lo-fi style of Odour of Dust and Rot, and uh, everything in between?

Thanks for proving my point! I never said the qualities in the music were subjective, taste IS completely subjective. And anyway, I don't dislike everything that has bad production, I do like some of it (Evilfeast, some Burzum stuff, Walknut, etc) but there comes a point when it just becomes too much for me to be able to listen to. You can disagree however much you want but that won't change anything.

I didn't prove your point at all, I just pointed out that what you think you know about black metal and your 'tastes' regarding the genre are uninformed and mostly irrelevant. I'm not going to go any further into it but maybe you should stop and think about what bands like Darkthrone tried to do with Transilvanian Hunger in terms of aesthetic and what that means to the genre of 'black metal'. Perhaps then you will understand why it's laughable you think Vinterland is the best the genre has to offer and why anyone with a serious interest in the genre will laugh at you for finding TH or similarly recorded albums 'unlistenable' (which, in comparison to a lot of other bands/records in black metal, is far from the truth).

I understand completely what they were trying to do, that doesn't mean I have to like it. And one of the best, I can't pick which I think is THE best, there's too many to choose from. But I'm tired of this, you've worn me out. I'll concede defeat so you can further inflate your internet ego. Congrats.

Complaining about the production shows that you have very little understanding of the record, as does comparing it in any way to Vinterland. I don't really need your concession to accentuate my godliness but thanks anyway.

I didn't compare it, I said I preferred stuff like Vinterland. Still wondering how/why Vinterland has nothing to do with black metal though, never got an answer lol

lol because it shouldn't need to be explained

'I think the production isn't good on this, I prefer stuff like Vinterland. By the way I'm not comparing the two I'm just talking about one in relation to the other!'

You're implying that I'm saying one is objectively better than the other, which is different from saying I like this more than that. Yes I like Vinterland's brand of BM more than Darkthrone's, but I accept that other people will think differently and won't judge them for it. And you're still evading the question, I've yet to receive an answer.
Goddamn I keep getting sucked in.

no I'm not. I'm implying you think one is a better black metal record than the other, the ridiculousness of which I'm struggling to convey. Vinterland and most other similar 'melodic' black metal bands are a whole different ball park and deserve no mention when talking about the actual genre of black metal, because they are a lame bastardisation of the entire black metal ethos. The genre's very essence is to be unmelodic so the whole concept of 'melodic black metal' is a farce. Sacramentum can sort of get away with it because of their compositional merit but basically any other band you can throw at me right now should essentially FOAD. Oh wait didn't Darkthrone already say that! lol what a coincedence!
