What's your deffintion? Because tbh this album isn't too far off from most of my beloved 90s neo-psych albums

would you 5 this if there was a member who dressed up as a clown and played maracas?
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
No, I might've 5'd this if the 9 min Green Typewriter was less boring though
Plus if dressing up is a qualification for Sporkcore, that'd make Mr. Bungle and fucking David Bowie the only Sporkcore artists I listen to

that's an example, not a definition. Mr Bungle would certainly qualify though!

So forget the examples, gimme a definition
Prove to me it's not an arbitrary classification with shifting rules
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
its not a genre or anything so I feel that would be counterproductive
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
So it has no definition then, it's just a buzzword insult?
Cool, then why call anything Sporkcore?
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
its more of a catch all or useful shorthand really
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
catch-all/useful shorthand for what though? Stuff you don't like?
|
| |
Good discussion. Good album.

I think you already know exactly what I'm talking about, but I fail to see how any of it can be applied to this album

Album Rating: 4.5
Ween doesn't dress up in costumes though or use maracas
"I think you already know exactly what I'm talking about, but I fail to see how any of it can be applied to this album"
Songs from this would easily fit on a playlist with plenty of Ween songs sound wise, so I don't see how one is spork and the other isn't (like this for instance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcdHMvWT1a4)

Sporkcore is a buzzword used to describe ZANY, ZAPPA-ESQUE, DEVO LIKE FUN music : )
|

Album Rating: 4.5
The Olivia Tremor Control is very zany though, and they've dabbled in musique concrete, like Zappa has
Also Devo and Zappa are very different
THIS LABEL MAKES NO SENSE
|
| |
It's not a legitimate genre. It does not need to make sense. Sporkcore is everything from Diablo Swing Orchestra to Oingo Boingo
And Devo and Zappa both influenced one of the most spork genres. Zolo.

ars have you done a zolo list yet
"zany" wouldn't be my go-to adjective for this kind of psych pop either lol

Zappa also influenced Black Sabbath, Parliament-Funkadelic, Paul McCartney and John Frusciante
Dude had an influential range
|
| |
Damn right he did. Mothers #1 rock band.

Album Rating: 4.5
I'm still not sure I know what zolo is either, but apparently that no-wave band Bound & Gagged counts and I like them
|
| |
Zolo is basically just music with quirky keyboards and jerky rhythms. (Devo influenced stuff, Cardiacs etc )
