Imagine all those awkward conversations over the years about Labrie being the least favorite member of the band. And imagine Labrie now going "write a fucking good album to put my vocals on, i'm waiting 15 years".

If anyone wants to hear Portnoy's vocals by themselves, there's a version of The Best of Times with him singi g it instead. It's not terrible from what I remember, but Labrie definitely did it better

Yeah LaBrie honestly slays The Best of Times. Sadly it's the last time he put any real emotion into his singing

I cant seem to stand much dream theater but endless sacrifice is one of the best prog metal songs ever

I love the transition from Petrucci's shredding solo to Rudess' Piano one on Stream of Consciousness

first time I've listened to this album through in years... doesn't hold up too well for me any more. so many wank solos. song lengths extended far beyond necessity. prefer the more playful prog of their earlier albums.

Been getting back into guitar, and endless sacrifice's intro, various riffs/solos is a go-to for warm up. Love Petruci's work there.

That double bass drumming at roughly 3:40 of Honor Thy Father is still fucking great

Can't believe I used to have this 4.5'd. I listened to this the other day and thought it was hot garbage.

Whenever I listen to In the name of God and Labrie sings "how can this be? Why is he the chosen one?" it gives me the cartoony image of a guy jealously pouting with arms crossed while Jesus gives the sermon of the mount in the background. Always cracks me up

Stream of Consciousness is their best instrumental, so much so it feels so out of place on this.
