a lot of the bands that are cooler to say youre into like exodus, destruction, kreator, sodom, testament, etc all started chasing the metallica/anthrax/megadeth dollar by 89/90. some as early as 87 in the case of exodus and testament

Last three are pretty questionable imo. But thrash surely takes eay too much effort to get the best out of the genre. Thrash is a mid genre with relatively few gems and lot of trash surely.

I feel like it's a lot easier to find shitty metalcore because a lot of bad core is also extremely popular, whereas thrash nowadays is a more niche/old genre where the discussions mostly center around the big 4 and the good shit outside of them anyway. My point being metalcore is visibly shittier, despite probably having a similar ratio of good to bad releases. Also helps that core has held sustained popularity for a longer period of time
