Put into context every album you've heard. The jingle here the jangle there. A sweet melody at that point a lovely harmony at that one. A blast of noise to surprise, a gentle lyric to relate to. Hip hop life one min, long haired metal the next. Confused jazz burst moment on this bit, pushing boundary solo on this bit. Repeat that pattern over and over and over and over.

Now jam this again. Loud.

This album makes me happy to be alive, it puts life into perspective, it inspires and it gives hope.

I know what you're getting at, zak, but that's actually more of an argument against other stuff than for this. Even if we say that it is an exceptional record that alone doesn't make it perfect in the slightest. It isn't the most emotional, most atmospheric or most ambitious record. Not even in their discography.

Good lad. Tuna.

Yes Kris you head case that is true. I prefer In Rainbows to this but how 'good' that record is comes nowhere near the individual brilliance of this.

Is there another record like OKC? You could argue it till the cows came home but I dunno.

In Rainbows comes close for me but they caught lightning in a bottle here

To argue about it one would have to define what OKC's brilliance is at first. It sure has quite a few virtues one could point out, but somehow it doesn't add up to something overall captivating, mesmerizing or touching (although it is sporadically).

As I always put it, it seems to me like a record that wants to be admired rather than to be enjoyed or felt. There's something stale and distant about its sound and atmosphere that just doesn't go well with what it wants to achieve.

I find is its cold and sterile as fuck but that is exactly the atmosphere it tries and succeeds in conveying.

Climbing Up The Walls can be terrifying when you listen to it at the right time

I can't decide whether I love this or In Rainbows more. In Rainbows just has such a warm feel to it, and such an emotional centre that it's hard not to love it. The last third of Weird Fishes when all the instrumentation comes rushing back gets me every time without fail.

@Tunaboy combine them and there you have it. In Rainbows was meant to compliment this album. If you havn't look it up how to mix the albums together, they flow pretty nicely when set up right.

See that's my problem with it, zak. I DON'T think it is so unbelievably cold and sterile. That's Kid A. As much as the Kid A/Amnesiac sessions were them freaking out and experimenting to no end, Kid A ended up heading in pretty much the same direction atmospherically as this did, only with its sound it was much more consequent and therefore brought a masterpiece like Idioteque with it.

With tracks like Airbag or Exit Music this ends up as neither fish nor fowl. It isn't intimate, yet not big and cold enough to make it to the other end of the spectrum. It isn't heart-wrenchingly emotional, yet not cold enough to already be unsettling and scary in a way. Maybe people love that about it, that it tries to encapsulate all of that. For me that means I remain almost completely unaffected by it at times.

@Tuna sweet, just making sure. Its probably been shared in the comments here about ten times so I always feel a little bad bringing it up again. Ok Computer and In Rainbows are my two favorites.
