This really doesn't hold a candle to shrine after a couple spins. Think I agree with the mixing complaints as well as the melodies sounding more monotone. But entirely possible it could grow.

This is a great little ep, never heard of this band before last week and it's a nice bow on the end of the year

Make sure you check Shrine, His Old Branches, Varuna, and The Cartographer. I know it sounds fanboyish but all four truly are essential.

This is wonderful indeed. I'm going to shamelessly slap a 5 on it if I ever start actually rating stuff again. Anyone else got certain "mewithoutYou-vibes" from it or is it just me?

Mixing is rough but the songs make up for it

Nice! I've always enjoyed that the band isn't above openly interacting with their fans and critics. They've even posted directly on this site a few times.

Varuna and prior definitely brings the nostalgia.

The way the opener blows in all raucous outta nowhere is definitely a "9:27am, 7/29" vibe and I could see someone drawing comparisons to mwY in a general songwriting sense although I suspect there are probably better (if done to death) comparisons within the scene.

Mixing bothered me at first, but the songs are so good that I don't even really notice it anymore. Usually by halfway through "Nightjar" my ears have adjusted to the fuzziness or whatever word you might use to describe this thing's pervading atmosphere.

Sure, there can most probably be better comparisons, but in many cases both chord progressions and rhyming schemes took me back to "Brother, Sister" or "Pale Horses" seemingly out of nowhere, so I was just curious whether this kind of beauty was ... ahem... "in the ear of the listener", so to speak.

I remember people complaining about the Pale Horses mixing as well, and then everyone seemingly grew to love it, so I definitely get the comparison especially given the similarities in chords & overall instrumental makeup that you alluded to.

Really wishing there was a little more heavy material here, ala Lens. Veer is probably my favorite
