I kind of thought I listened to this and didn’t like it that much but the first track is already at least pretty cool so maybe not

Ah no yea this isn’t that interesting to me and I did listen to it and not like it that much

significant L vibe

It's ok, but rather formulaic and in parts cheesy with sample choices.

neither of those are words i'd use to describe this at all
|

Yeah it feels too Jon Hopkins-fied for me

damn thats something else i would never use to describe this, they sound totally different and occupy totally different spaces within electronic
|

Well, I don't see any other fitting description for the vocal snippets on "Breathing Method" and "Testo BC Mashup". Overall too reliant on the conceptualized loops for me, I also didn't like the inclusion of Amen Breaks. But to each their own, fans of this would probably love Download's "Lingam".

Jon Hopkins is a really bad comparison. If anything his style is inspired by LTJ Bukem, Big Bud, Makoto etc.

i can see bukem in the more atmospheric breaks-y stuff going on here, yeah. obv theres a lot of diversity so its kind of hard to pinpoint just one influence but i think a lot of ilian tape's stuff is pretty unique

Don't hear any Hopkins at all in this and am largely grateful. Very different approaches, sounds and ears for melody

@Ryus
They're similar in the sense of hard hitting beats meeting deep spacey synths, which is basically the stand-out feauture of this release. Probably a good idea to listen to more than one track.

i guess i can see that...
i listened to the second and third tracks too and yeah this is not my thing at all genre-wise

kinda funny cuz to me that sounds waaaay more cheesy than this
|

It's both still IDM, though. Other than that it depends on what you're looking for. For "dark" and technical Dnb esque stuff guys like Spor, Apex and Receptor are quite on a different level altogether.

not to quibble about genres too much but i wouldnt rly even call this IDM, but if you would call it that, then it's clearly far more inspired by breakbeat/techno/ambient/dnb. that download album seems to draw from industrial/acid/trance

regardless i tend not to like most things under the idm umbrella, this is an exception (if you even want to put it under that umbrella)

Check out Believe in My Soul by Makoto Ryus. It's a lot more straightforward in the sense that it's dnb all the way through but the vibes are just as lush and cozy as in this. YOu might dig it
