Unforgiven89 Most the songs are better than the singles tbh. But who knows you could hate the whole thing and call it a steaming piece of dogshit give it a listen and find out that's the surprise jack. It's called an opinion. Word tosmok. Word

I'm gushing over "Crown of Barbed Wire". I wouldn't gush over "inamorata" but it is a really good song (that might be a little too long, go figure). I hear My Friend of Misery, To Live is To Die, some Load snippets... but all kind of blended together to make their own thing.

Good ear definitely my friend of misery. This is basically a amped up hardwired yeah The kill em/nwobhm influences are on multiple tracks here sndy the load influences are more pronounced. As well as the black album groove Etc etc. All wrapped up in a more consistent package front to back imo. Shadows follow, inamorata, crown, chasing light,to far gone, you must burn. All bangers. I love the 70s hard rock/sabbath vibe on inamorata especially. Then it gets more complex as it runs on good ending to the album.

I can’t wait to never hear the word “wire” sung again. Ever.

Part of this is migraine inducing, part how much thinking about these riffs could be better if only Metallica had a drummer that could keep up with some maybe nostalgic “hey, it’s Metallica” moments sprinkled in.

Wish the guitars had a little more bite to them. No quite loud enough in the mix or something.

so i just got back from the theatrical debut thing. it's definetly their best album this century so far. there's a lot of stuff metallica have never done before and that's where the album shines brightest. HW felt so forced and lifeless, but this feels like they actually gave a shit and were excited to be there. it has the best production of any metallica album this century too. i think there were 2-3 songs that sucked, but only 2-3 songs that were really great. the rest is perfectly fine; too good to be boring, but not interesting enough to be straight bangers. it still has the same flaws and issues as every metallica release of the last 25 years, but they are slightly subdued here.

willie called it; "crown of barbed wire" is the best song on the album. such a nice sludgy tune, and james's vocals sound fucking amazing. holy shit, he's never sounded that good before. nice call willie

In theaters Crown of Barbed Wire was the one song that truly did nothing for me but maybe I'll feel differently once I listen at home with headphones lol

For every good song here there's a boring one and the good songs aren't even that great. Last two albums had way higher highs

So far as far as post St Anger releases, for me this is at the bottom. It's a fine record but there's no "future classic" like Spit out the Bone was or isn't as consistent as DM.

interesting how divisive this one seems to be. i do think "inomorata" or whatever is the closest thing to modern classic. most of this album seems to ride at a comfortable 7/10, with a few songs above and a few songs below that average. i agree that "spit out the bone" is better than any song on this one, but 90% of that album was painfully boring, repetitive, and banal. this one is a lot more fun and energetic imo

Yeah this is way more consistent front to back. And has more melody and stronger hooks than hardwired or magnetic. Also a bit more diversity and better production especially over magnetic. This fixes alot of the problems the last 2 albums had it's no were near as bland as hardwired and more focused than magnetic. Magnetic is solid but it's riff salad most the time it's like they tried to hard to be 80s metallica. Plus James is at his peak 2000s wise here imo. Oh opinions
