DT is probably the best melodeath band for me if you look at entire discography. They haven't released a special album in a long time tho.

yeah I actually don't like The Gallery all that much
like it's still a good album but I always preferred DT's mid-era stuff, especially Damage Done, Character, and Fiction

both Character and Haven are better than The Gallery, possibly even Damage Done is better

Another generic Soilwork album that's getting overhyped I see! Seriously though, never understood the love these guys get

I thought for a long time that Bogren is great but honestly he can't hold a candle to 80s and 90s production or people like Steven Wilson today, everything is too fucking compressed and neutered, especially the drums.
I do agree TLI had their best production tho

Electric Again, Golgata, Vultures, Dreams of Nowhere and the last track are absolutely up there with anything these guys've ever done, this record is sick

Haven is criminally underrated in DT's discog tbh
They're also probably the only mdm band of that era that's never really released a bad album.

Dark Tranquility? Not released a bad album? Ummmm

They are certainly not my favorite mdm band, but they are easily the most consistent. No arguments with that statement at all.

Nah tbf I did think about it, and they probably didn't have an outright "bad" album, but there's definitely some plainly average stuff there that is just forgettable. They were a great band back in the day. Never saw the big thing about Fiction though

agreed Mars, it's definitely in my top 2 DT and people rarely seem to mention it in any conversation

It makes sense. It comes after Projector, which was a unique album in its own right and a heavily atmospheric take on the DT sound, and it comes before Character, where the band established their evolved sound that they're now known for. Essentially, it's caught in an odd middle ground as a sort of stepping stone to their renowned early 2000s run, yet at the same time it's unlike whatever came earlier and later.
It's atmospheric like Projector could be, but it marks a huge pivot, as it's the first time they brought their longtime keyboard player on board. Their approach leaned heavily on that new element, making it almost entirely keys-based--something they'd never turn to again in the same manner. Not having the same guitar leads made it a bit of a hard sell, and the omnipresent keys turn people away too. I personally love how epic it ends up sounding, and DT aren't normally a group I'd classify as 'epic' in that sense.
