Album isn't very good. Sounds like Coheed trying to sound like Amarionette.
I just don't get why they forgot how to write good rock songs. You can be sick of making prog, that's fine. But is it too hard to write me another Mother May I? I just want a good song.

Finally listened. I cant disagree harder. This is the first real departure/progression since GA1. Theyre actually trying new stuff again which is what i have wanted from them for years.

Been a long time lurker on this site, finally decided to start taking part in the conversations.
I’m a huge Coheed fan and have been since Second Stage. Without meaning to sound like a complete fanboy, I respectfully disagree with your rating and review, well written as it is, but let me explain. First and foremost, I’m a little disappointed with this album, and I’m not afraid to admit that. But giving Vaxis II a 2.0 (in my opinion) means it’s only as good as Black Rainbow or Color of the Sun, and that’s insulting to the good shit that IS on this one, as I find those albums to be pretty bad. I think it’s a solid 3.5, and that’s just because the bangers on here are really fucking good. The auto tuned parts ruin what could’ve been some decent songs, and the last track, even though it’s proggy/wacky/silly, is a technically well written song, but it’s like seeing a movie of the same caliber. It was good the first time, but I’ve experienced it and don’t need to again. Beautiful Losers and Ladders of Supremacy are easily as good as the stuff on Vaxis I, which I enjoyed immensely.

Vaxis saga so far has been a series of hits and misses. The hits are bangers, the misses are absolute garbage. Aside from "Shoulders" in the early game, the only worthwhile cuts are the last three songs, which are absolute gold.

Nah dude, butt rock Coheed is the worst. Can't get down with Shoulders but Comatose is one of the best songs they've ever written. How can you call it not worthwhile?

cj - agree with your comments. I usually hate auto-tuned effects but doesn’t bother me here. I think Claudio was going for the effect to achieve a vibe; like the way Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) uses it. Claudio and Justin can both sing their asses off and don’t need it to hit a note or stay in key. Album is super enjoyable to listen to; Johnny just missed it.

Yeah, Shoulders was groovy but it just didn't feel very Coheed. Kinda broke the immersion.

I've got to hear this again on good speakers. Played it from my phone speakers and it sounded like one banger after another.

I miss when the vocal delivery was unpredictable. That has been the most detrimental part of their songwriting since the first 3 or 4 albums.
