On first listen now and wow “Milkweed” is pretty stunning. Definitely liking this, glad I didn’t skip it. Making me think I need to dig into more of their back catalogue too as I’d previously only heard Rook before.

Glad you're enjoying it Boney. I almost dismissed this as too slow and uneventful for my taste after 1-2 quick listens, but I'm glad I didn't because now it's firmly in my AOTY running. So much layered depth and beauty to this one. Laguna Seca is probably still the best one for me personally, but my actual favorite is having a very elusive free hour to sit down and actually hear this whole thing, because when that happens, every track comes alive and sounds stunning.

I will say that like Rook this toes the line of being too artsy-fartsy (that awful cover art doesn’t help and honestly was part of what deterred me) but I think it mostly lands on the good side.

Interesting, it was the artwork that drew me to this in the first place after Shearwater fell off for me in recent years. I honestly love it. The music is artsy but also subdued; I think that's what I like the most - that it is able to integrate so many interesting ideas into something that flows so naturally and never feels like it's trying to be anything.

>displays the absolute tiniest jot of obliqueness
>theBoneyKing is toothgrinding about artsy-fartsyness
am annoyed at the art now. had only ever seen it as a thumbnail and assumed that 1) it was less overdetailed, more watercolour and 2) the ring of animals was a ring of sleepytrance dancing people. disappointment

Idk, the sort of mystical look of it with the circling animals just looks so goofy to me. It’s very reminiscent of The Golden Archipelago’s art which I never liked either.
@Johnny, honestly a lot of that artsiness is in the vocals, and also just that general atmosphere indicated by the cover.
