"I didn't miss Anneke at all tbh, although I did feel some morbid curiosity trying to imagine how some passages would sound with her."
No matter how strong the sinergy between the band and Silje is, in the back of our minds this is bound to happen. Anneke did mark an era after all.
But yeah Silje is awesome here, just like she was on Disclosure.

PAN YOU'RE HEEEEEERE!!!!!
You could start here, for sure. I mean, it's different from the Anneke-era after all. I'd say you can approach them as different entities, different versions of the same thing.
And agreed Dreamflight, I still miss Anneke. But this is my fave Silje performance yet, for sure!
Just finished the album, love it a lottttt. The EP's up next!

Oh yeah I think you will. To put some more pressure on: the Anneke years (Mandylion-Nighttime Birds-How To Measure A Planet?-if_then_else-Souvenirs-Home) is my fave album run ever. Without a doubt.
Disclosure and this are also super lovely. The West Pole has its moments.
We mostly ignore the first two.

Since I have heard the 'Anneke years' (except Home) I presumably have free reign to just dive straight into this one...
although I must seek authorisation from the chief of The Gathering's fan club first of course!
so is this acceptable Trif?

Are you on the club's board Dew? I wouldn't want to step out of line.
(I already have this 'to check', just offering up my support)

Dewi and I co-chair the board. Johnny brings coffee. Dreamflight and Keyblade are honorary members.

Hmm okay then, that seems acceptable... coffee would be nice IF JOHNNY EVER TURNS UP WITH MY ORDER!
Presumably there are snacks?

And we have lots of members of course. Luc. Pika. You, I think? A recent addition? And Pan?
Many people In The Know.

Grounded is another one that I absolutely love. And the acoustic Black is Magnified is lovely. Reminds me of the simplicity of Nighttime Birds. It's just When We Fall, Weightless, and Pulse of Life that are neither here nor there for me.

So this finally came out, gotta check out soon as possible

" Dreamflight and Keyblade are honorary members"
Great!!!! :D
@Lucman
Wasn't very keen on Weightless and Pulse of Life at first either, but they get better after a while.
So far Grounded and We Rise are the ones that have the potential to become all time favs.

Also Hans Rutten is such a fantastic and underrated drummer, those patterns on Pulse of Life are crazy.

Oh wow CUTE am so glad yall are vibing this!!
Honestly, Luc's reaction isn't far from my first impression (minus that, controversy alert, We Rise is one of my less favourite songs here) and I'm SUPER glad the band kindly dished out the promo so early - grew into something as solid as anything they've done, even if it's hardly top 5 potential still. Just a really lovely solid album
Black Is Magnified, Weightless and When We Fall in particular grew a long way

So yall are saying this is good eh

Just found out that this is streaming at bc
Will listen no matter what: http://thegathering.bandcamp.com/album/beautiful-distortion

sometimes sounds like euro pop ballads with a rock makeover (not necessarily in a bad way - could also level that at nu-Anathema at times) but overall like it, dunno how much yet
