No way is any run of songs better than Disappearing, Eyes to the Wind, An Ocean Between the Waves. But that one you mentioned or Nothing to Find, Thinking of a Place, and In Chains would be next best.

It's like a dream, it's got me up all night again...
Nice callback there.

Nobody's talking about the track Change here. Really digging that one.

“I Don't Wanna Wait / Victim / I Don't Live Here Anymore is their best ever run of three songs I think, definitely rate all three of those top marks”
Agreed. Very strong sequence of tracks.

Change is great too, esp the last two minutes which are sublime -thinking I’d rate every song here 4.5+ except Old Skin and Rings Around which at the moment I’m only feeling 3s for.
Those two definitely letting the side down so far

Rings Around isn’t a bad ballad listening to it now…but it makes the end of the album too sleepy. It’s not needed when you’re ending on the far superior mid tempo Occasional Rain.
Old Skin is just missing something, bit bland, the worst written track here I’d say. Still, as far as ‘worst songs’ on an album go it’s nothing bad really.

song craft is different this time but in its own way maybe better - their easiest album to listen to in full and on repeat

I feel like the song Change is a microcosm of the album, because (like a few other songs on here) it sometimes comes across as verging on self-parody of a TWOD song, but nonetheless is pretty great (and the "lonely freedom fight...born on the wrong day" part gets me every time, maybe my favorite moment of the album)

Embrace the buzzin fuzzin
It reminds me a bit of what the National were doing on the track TheSystem Only Dreams in Total Darkness

The opener is a classic I feel, I know it’s just Wilco but it’s such great Wilco
First six track are pretty much untouchable my dudes

If Springsteen had released this set of songs everyone would be jacking it…this band are too consistent I guess.
If this had come out of nowhere this album would have been talked up a lot more

“Change” hasn’t totally clicked for me (I still like it a lot but as Sunny said that’s perhaps the most “War on Drugs writing a War on Drugs” song I can imagine) but yeah other wise the first 6 are all tops.
2:56 in “I Don’t Wanna Wait” is prob the best moment on the album, big but every time that section hits.
