"I honestly hate discog running artists in general. It makes it less organic/more of a chore for me which in turn just makes me more critical of how it sounds compared to whatever my first fav album was while simultaneously being more passive to the actual material I'm digesting. In one ear out the other."
Completely agreed. I'd rather wait 3 years for an album that had care and time put into it than just have an artist shit out 30 records in a year and have none of them be memorable or interesting. Because at least that 3-year wait is gonna lead to something that I'll actually return to

I feel discog running can be very rewarding if the artist in question pulls a load of bold shifts that make you appreciate their development that much extra - certainly glad I got the benefit of this going from Permutation to Supermod and Out Where to Foley to ISAM with Tobin, or Emperor TK to Dots and Loops with Stereolab for instance
That said, if it's a chore, it's a chore - and I'm not sure if it's gonna be worth going all the way with these guys tbh

i almost thought you said emperor as in the band and i would have agreed with that lol

I have been listening to amon tobin since I was in high school so my intake of the entire discog was gradual but I could see that being a good exception

Acc, did you mean discog running in terms of rattling through a whole discog 1-2-3-4 or in terms of committing to chewing over a whole discog within whatever short/mid-timeframe (or both/either)? If the former, I completely agree that it sucks and is easily counterproductive; if the latter, I guess it depends whether it feels like going on a journey or filling in holes in a wall
|

Both but the former is deffs much worse than the latter in all regards mentioned of/c
And agreed

amon tobin is the best agreed

Gotcha gotcha
It's all just Pokémon tbh. Sometimes you don't wanna catch em all bc fuck that shit, sometimes it just feels a bit lame having a Golbat you didn't personally evolve from its first form

Agreed on the discog run thing, I wouldn’t just blast out every album by an artist in a forced short time frame, that’ll undoubtedly lead to resentment along the line, or at least a lack of clarity.
I more of a ‘I liked album a) and b) I heard one month back, let’s try album c)’ kind of guy. So my intention is to fill gaps eventually, but no I don’t always get there for various reasons (usually quality related) - with some artists I’ve returned years later.

As for this it’s a shame about the closer, for a song that takes up a third of the run-time you’d be forgiven for expecting a little more. I could quite happily award a higher score if not for that blemish, there’s around 27 minutes of mostly excellent material here.

Interesting that we were on about the virtues (or not) of discog runs here and I haven’t gone beyond this yet. I haven’t forgotten! (Okay maybe a little). I can’t see me checking everything regardless.
3.0? Woah that’s massive (lol?)

'The Man' through 'Reveille' era all has significant merit, in fact I may be underrating 'Man' a tad, that one is staunchly lo-fi and makes virtually no song-writing sense at times, but the quirkiness of it out-quirks even other cuts I've heard from these guys. Charming. Yeah, that's the word. Technically shouldn't work, yet it somehow does.
Comments go here as there are no other threads (till Milk Man), so what you gonna do?
Cool band
